Decorating with Flowers – Ideas for Fall:

Create an autumn bouquet from flowers in your yard (or a farm stand)…

For the past couple of years, our hydrangea bushes have been producing tons of beautiful flowers.  At the end of the summer, I like to cut a bunch and bring them inside to create bouquets.

On my recent fall home tour, I placed this simple fall arrangement on my dining room table.  Because of their size and shape, I think hydrangeas are the perfect flowers for decorating.  I guess it’s one of the reasons they seem to be everyone’s favorite flowers for late summer and fall!  Also, they look great in white pitchers, don’t they?

This week, I had lunch with some old friends.  As a gift, one of my friends brought us each a bouquet of these gorgeous dahlias she grew in her flower garden. Talk about having a green thumb!  Seriously, I need to take some gardening lessons!

Enjoy some of your fall mums indoors this year…

Sure, we all like to display chrysanthemums (aka mums) on our front porches but they look great inside too!  From what I’ve learned, it’s best to keep mums out of direct sunlight if you’re displaying them indoors.  Also, remember to water them frequently.

One year, I shared 3 Ways to Decorate a Bar Cart for Fall and I loved the simplicity of using neutrals.  For the other two versions, I added a bit more color (without fall flowers).  If you’re looking for fall decorating ideas, definitely check out that blog post.

This fall, add a pop of color to your home with sunflowers…

Since the sun is setting earlier these days, why not add a bit of “sunshine” to your kitchen island this fall.

Brighten up your bathroom counter with fresh flowers for fall:

Apparently, my guest bathroom needed a little sunshine as well!  Sure, I might have gone a little overboard on the sunflower theme in there but I thought it was a fun way to welcome guests!

Fill a planter or large bowl with hydrangeas for fall…

Like I said before, hydrangeas are a perfect flower to use when decorating.  Not only do they look beautiful when they are fresh but you can let them dry out and they’re just as pretty!

When I decorated for early fall in the kitchen, this planter of hydrangeas made a great focal point on my island.  Plus, it gave me a chance to decorate with blue and white.  If you think you can’t use blue and white pieces in the fall, be sure to read How to Decorate with Blue and White in the Fall.

Head to your local grocery store to keep your fall centerpieces simple…

If you don’t want to spend a lot of money on your fall centerpiece, simply fill a container with grocery store flowers!

For this casual table setting, I filled a glass vase with water and placed it inside the galvanized bucket.  This way, the flowers stood straight and I didn’t risk having the galvanized container leak on the table if it wasn’t water tight.

Decorating with Flowers – Ideas for Outdoor Fall Spaces:

If you have window boxes, fill them with autumn flowers…

Sure, not many of us actually have these, but they are too pretty not to mention!

Decorate your outdoor living spaces with fall flowers…

If it’s still warm enough to entertain outdoors, add some potted fall flowers to your space.

On our outdoor coffee table, I placed a large mum as the centerpiece.  Between the outdoor seating and the cozy fall blankets, I was able to make this spot feel like an outdoor living room. To see more of this outdoor space, read Ideas for Fall Outdoor Decorating.

If you’re like me, you could use some gardening tips!

For a rustic fall centerpiece, this galvanized milk can is perfect for real or artificial fall flowers.

In fact, I have the same one and have used it on my spring table.  When using it for fresh flowers, I always put a thin glass vase inside just in case it leaks.

If you’d rather not deal with real flowers, this sunflower arrangement would look cute indoors or on a porch.

Or, forego the fall flowers altogether and decorate with a large wheat bundle!
