Ideas for Fall Outdoor Decorating – Keep it Simple and Cozy!
Hello friends! Are the temperatures cooling down where you live? It’s definitely starting to feel like fall here in New Jersey…which makes me want to decorate for the season. If you happen to be looking for some fall outdoor decorating ideas, I’ve got you covered. Today, I’m sharing some simple and cozy ideas for fall outdoor decorating…on the patio!

Now, let’s head to my patio for some simple outdoor fall decorating ideas!
Since we’re not entertaining inside these days, I’ve been trying to make my outdoor areas cozy and inviting for guests.
An easy idea for fall outdoor decorating – bring out some indoor pieces…
For my outdoor seating area, I brought out some soft velvet pillows to make the couch extra cozy. Of course, I don’t leave the pillows out there all the time but they make the space inviting when entertaining outdoors.
On the coffee table, I laid out my navy buffalo check runner to soften the glass top. When I did my early fall decorating in my foyer, I used the runner in there as well. In my opinion, you can never have too many buffalo checks!

Of course, I left plenty of room on the table if I want to squeeze in a cheese plate or a few glasses of wine. After all, this is an outdoor entertaining space.
Decorate the fall patio with seasonal items :
You can’t go wrong with simple mums for fall! I thought this large white mum made a nice centerpiece for the coffee table. From there, a couple lanterns and pumpkins completed the look.

If you’re like me, you love entertaining to the glow of candlelight. With the sun setting earlier these days, we need all the extra light we can get.
On each side of the couch, I placed orange mums and pumpkins to coordinate with the orange pillows. Recently, I decorated my front porch with mums and now I think I might add some orange ones there as well. (For more front porch ideas, here are 15 fabulous finds!)
From there, I decided to see how the mums and lanterns looked on the the back stairs. Actually, I need to buy more to line the other side of the stairs, but you get the idea!..

Keep it warm with textures and color…
Since I already have some navy in other areas of my patio, it made sense to continue with a few more touches. Plus, the navy goes great with orange, its complementary color. In addition to the buffalo check runner, I brought out my cable knit textured navy throw from my family room.

Of course, it never hurts to have a few extra throw blankets on a chilly evening. On a side chair, I added a neutral faux shearling throw.
Now this outdoor spot can be used for casual entertaining on chilly nights.
And when the nights get even chillier, we can head over to the fire pit for some real warmth…and s’mores of course! Plus, the firepit allows for more social distancing. With the roaring fire in the middle of everyone, I feel confident that we’ll be pretty safe.

You might recognize this photo from when I shared my spring patio. As you can see, my spring look actually coordinated pretty well with the fall accessories I added to my other seating area…plus I ran out of orange pillows!
With just a few simple items, I warmed up my back patio with fall decor! Hopefully, I gave you some ideas to decorate your outdoor areas!

Thanks Coco! Yes, we definitely need lots of blankets here in the northeast. This year, we plan to extend our patio time as long as we can. Only the snow will stop us!
