Ideas for Christmas Tablescapes:
Red and White Snowflake Theme with a Simple Centerpiece…
One year, I decorated my holiday table with traditional red to coordinate with the rest of my Christmas decor. For the simple centerpiece, I placed three mini Christmas trees on a red table runner and scattered some candles and wooden snowflakes.
To continue with the red and white on this Christmas tablescape, I stacked my fair isle snowflake plates on white plates. Instead of buying a full set of holiday dishes, I just bought the salad plates so I could mix them with my everyday plates. On top of the red plates, I simply rolled some white napkins and dressed them up with shiny silver reindeer napkin rings.
That year, I decorated with even more red fair isle and snowflakes throughout my home. To see more of this table setting along with the rest of my Christmas decorations from that year, read – 2022 Christmas Home Tour.
Christmas Tablescape with White Ceramic Village…
Over the past few years, white ceramic houses have become so popular. Each holiday season, I pick up a few more so I now have quite a collection. One year, I decorated a Christmas table setting using the houses as the centerpiece.
First, I rolled out a burlap table runner for the base and then placed various sized houses on top. For color, I mixed artificial Christmas greens with fresh greenery for some natural elements. For my fresh greenery, I snipped some of the bushes in my yard but you could use rosemary sprigs or extra cuttings from a live Christmas tree. To add splashes of red, I scattered a few glass ball ornaments
Since I wanted white to be the predominate color, I used white napkins, white plates and black and white placemats. To complete the look, the black and white Christmas village salad plates were the perfect find. Once again, I just bought the salad plates instead of the full set of dishes. Dining Room Table with Blue Willow Dishes…
If you’re looking for a more formal look, here is how I decorated my dining room table with traditional blue and white plates. For this table, I started my centerpiece with my burlap table runner again. Then, I placed an artificial mini tree inside a blue and white porcelain planter and surrounded it with pine cones, faux greenery silver reindeer and white taper candles.
On each place setting, I layered traditional red and green to give a Christmas vibe to the blue and white dishes. To pull all the colors together, I paired a red ornament and pine cone in each bowl on top of a red napkin and mini wreath.
This is a perfect example of a way to make non-holiday dishes feel festive. For more views of this table and my navy dining room at Christmas, see – Christmas Table in a Navy Dining Room.
If you love plaid, here’s a peek at a table I’ll be sharing during my house tour this week…
This Christmas season, I decorated with plaid throughout my home. From table linens to ribbons and bows, I mixed in different patterns of plaid for a cozy vibe. Be sure to stop back on Tuesday, December 8th to see this table setting along with my house tour! *Update: my house tour is here – Simple Christmas Touches (Tour of My Holiday Home).
Items to Add to Casual Christmas Tablescapes:
Use a stocking to hold your utensils…
To make each table festive and fun, gather your utensils inside a stocking. You could add candy canes or other treats and even let your guests take the stocking home as a party favor. This was just one of several stocking display ideas I shared on my blog.
Make paper placemats from wrapping paper…
For a budget friendly placemat idea, cut some placemats from wrapping paper. One year, I “made” red and white striped placemats which were perfect for kids or any messy eaters…You can just use them and throw them away when you’re done!
