Simple Christmas Touches Around My Home:
Welcome to my holiday foyer…
Today, we’ll start in my entryway where I’ve decorated my staircase with garland and plaid bows.
This year, I chose red, green and navy blue plaid bows to coordinate with my new (actually old) antique blue dresser. For years, I had been looking for the perfect piece of furniture for this spot and I found this one in a thrift store recently, Instead of putting a Christmas tree in my foyer, I decided to decorate the new dresser instead.
To allow the dresser to be the focal point of the space, I kept the Christmas decorations on top very simple. First I placed a red candle inside a glass hurricane and surrounded it with a fluffy Christmas wreath. Alongside, I added a glass apothecary jar filled with white and gold glass ornaments. Simple yet festive touches of Christmas… Eventually, I want to find a larger mirror for the spot but it works for now.
While I hanging bows on my staircase, I also added a few to the top of the photos on my gallery wall. Lately, I’ve seen a lot of people doing this and it was super easy. I simply clipped some greenery from a pine tree in my yard, used a twist-tie bow to attach the pieces together and set them on top of the frames. To hold them in place, I bent the end of the twist tie and tucked it behind the frames. Overall, it was an easy way to add a festive Christmas touch to my photo wall.
Christmas Touches in the Family Room…
In my family room, I continued with a simple approach to decorating. On my fireplace, I modified the look I had for fall by reusing the white vase, gold candlesticks and a (different) mirror. Obviously, I switched the seasonal items but if you take a look at my fall mantel, you’ll see similarities.
Eventually, I’ll add our Christmas stockings to the mantel but for now, I like the clean and simple look.
Of course, I had to add a few red bows to add small touches of Christmas. Even simple items can add a lot of holiday cheer!
On my sectional, I mixed some Christmas pillows with my everyday blue and white ones. The plaid one helped to pull all the colors together. This year, I decorated with several plaid pieces in my home. It’s such a cozy pattern for Christmas!
Speaking of plaid, let’s head into the kitchen to see more!
Christmas Touches in the Kitchen…
When you have an open concept kitchen and family room, it makes sense to coordinate the decor. With all the touches of red I used in these spaces, I decided not to hang my red checked curtains like last year. I think it would have been too much red…
This year, I added even more plaid with a new tablecloth, dishes and bows for my wreaths. Speaking of bows, I attached more of those red velvet twist tie bows to my chandelier. Between the gallery wall, the mantel and the chandelier, I really got my money’s worth on those things! If you’re interested, this set of 24 bows were the exact ones I bought.
Since I went a little plaid-crazy on the table, I kept the rest of the accessories pretty simple. Usually, I add an extra decoration like an ornament or pine cone on each place setting. In my opinion, the color and pattern was just enough.
Of course, I did use my leftover cranberries from Thanksgiving to enhance the centerpiece. For a simple way to dress up a Christmas table, you can’t go wrong with glass hurricanes filled with cranberries and candles. For even more ways to decorate with cranberries, here are some ideas!
As a last minute addition, I also added some battery operated fairy lights to the greenery…but didn’t bother to turn them on for the photos. In the next week, I’ll share some night time photos with candles and Christmas lights so you can see how cozy it looks.
If you want to add some cozy plaid Christmas touches to your table, this is my exact tablecloth and these are my exact salad plates. It’s amazing how well they coordinate even though they’re from two different stores.
In the rest of the kitchen, the plaid continues! Each year, I change the ribbon on the little cabinet wreaths. Luckily, I found this plaid ribbon which coordinated with the larger plaid ribbon I reused on the basket over the stove.
This year, I’m loving how all the red makes the kitchen feel extra festive.
Last year, when I used the same basket and bow, I just filled it with the faux greenery. This year, by adding red berries and bright red candles, I made this area more of a focal point.
Over the sink, I added a simple wreath with more of the plaid ribbon.
Before we head to the dining room, here’s one last look from the kitchen into the family room. Hopefully, I’ve given you some ideas for adding Christmas touches to your kitchen!
Christmas Touches in the Dining Room…
In case you didn’t notice from the first photo, my dining room can be seen from my foyer. Which means, my new blue dresser coordinates well with my navy blue walls! Normally, I put up a Christmas tree in my dining room…but I’m a little behind with that at the moment. In fact, I haven’t even removed the leaf in the dining room table from Thanksgiving!
For my Christmas touches in the dining room, I rolled out my burlap table runner and topped it with a silver champagne bucket filled with faux greenery. With a couple nutcrackers and some candles, I have a classic yet simple centerpiece for everyday.
After all, my dining room is very traditional so silver feels right in there…especially with the navy blue walls.
In the back corner, I decorated some shelves with more nutcrackers and some Christmas china. And my bar cart is ready for holiday entertaining!
Cheers to the Christmas season!
