Fall Ideas for Decorating with Plaid and Checks:

Style a table with a plaid runner…

When I shared my Early Fall Decorating Ideas, I featured a blue buffalo plaid table runner in my foyer.  For the beginning of the fall season, I loved the way the navy blue checks contrasted with the light green hydrangeas and Granny Smith apples.

For my neutral fall table, I used a more subtle plaid table runner.  With mostly neutral accessories, the golden stems and wine glasses really stood out.

Add some coziness with a plaid pillow…

For a cozy feel you can’t go wrong with a plaid pillow.  Recently, when I decorated my Fall Family Room, I added a touch of plaid with my navy blue pillow cover.  I love the classic Ralph Lauren vibe it gives the space…such a timeless pattern!

Decorate your porch with a touch of plaid…

Just a simple plaid accessory can give your space some character.  One year, I decorated with my plaid rain boots to add some pattern to my fall porch.

*For another plaid pattern idea, swap out your doormat for a plaid one – or layer a plaid outdoor rug under your existing doormat.

Paint some buffalo plaid pumpkins to match your decor…

If you want to try an easy DIY project, paint a few plaid pumpkins in fall colors…or even blue and white if you decorate with those colors.  For an easy tutorial, read – How to Paint Buffalo Plaid Pumpkins.

Add a plaid ribbon to a fall wreath…

Last year, I made a fall wreath with a buffalo plaid ribbon and hydrangeas from my yard.  Since the flowers were a little fragile to hang the wreath outdoors, I hung it inside the front door.  This way, I could enjoy seeing it every time I walked through my foyer.
