Here are some simple ideas to welcome April:

Celebrate Tulip Season:

Welcome the month of April with a visit to a tulip farm…

To me, it feels like spring as soon as I start seeing tulips everywhere.  Each April, I try to visit an annual tulip festival in New Jersey.  You can read all about my visit here – Largest Tulips Festival on the East Coast.  If you have a tulip festival near you, you should definitely try to go!

Decorate with tulips to welcome April…

Even though I love fresh flowers, faux ones can look almost as nice!  For my spring home tour, I created a few vignettes with faux tulips.  Then recently, I found these adorable tulip mugs!  So far, I’ve only purchased two…but I might get a few more!

Celebrate National Afternoon Tea Month:

Yes, April is Afternoon Tea Month!…

Whether you’re having a simple girls get together or planning for Mother’s Day, consider hosting an afternoon tea!  If you want some decorating ideas and tips for your tea, be sure to read: Spring Afternoon Tea Ideas (for Entertaining at Home).

Decorate with Springy Items:

If you have spring dishes, bring them out and use them…

For me, cabbage leaf plates feel very springy.  Sure, I guess you could use classic cabbage ware any time of year, but I love to style with mine in the spring (and summer)!

This April, pick up some inexpensive trendy items for spring…

Even though I consider cane items to be timeless, I’ve been seeing more in the store this season.  In fact, I recently purchased this fabulous cane tote bag!  Since the caning is plastic, it will be perfect for the beach…gotta think ahead to summer!  I even bought the matching mini bag because I thought it would be great to carry a bottle of wine for those BYOB restaurants!

Welcome April – Update and Decorate:

Freshen up some spaces in your home this spring…

Recently, I bought new furnishings for the living room in our Vermont condo. For years, we were living with a bunch of worn out furniture from the previous owner…(which was fine since we used to rent the place out). Now that we stopped renting, I thought I’d freshen up the place a little.  Keeping in mind that my son and his college buddies frequently use the condo, I didn’t want to spend a lot.

First, I replaced the sofa with the the Radley Sofa from Macy’s.  When shopping for that sofa, I was pleasantly surprised at the custom fabrics I could choose from…at no extra cost.  For mine, I chose the Marley Sand fabric which is a durable yet very comfortable chenille.  Then, we bought these end tables with the matching coffee table..  Not only were they relatively easy to put together, but they’re solid and look more expensive than they cost.  Finally, I bought these lamps which are a great size and a great price!  Once I go through my old photos of the room, I’ll do a full before and after for you!

Squeeze in some last minute spring skiing:

If there’s still some snow lingering in the mountains, plan a quick getaway!…

Last year, we took advantage of some lovely ski days well into April.  In Killington, Vermont where we ski, they continue to make snow into the spring.  Of course, they like to be known as having the longest ski season in the east!

April Shopping Finds:

If spring is getting you in a coastal mood, these pretty raffia trays could give you a beachy vibe in your home…

If you want to combine natural textures with the scalloped decor trend, this bowl is gorgeous!

For even more natural textures, this rattan vase is pretty and very inexpensive!

For even more April and spring ideas, here are some finds from around the internet:

  1. I am with you on the tulip fields! We made a trip up north last year up to Holland, MI to see the tulip fields; I have never in my (California girl) life seen anything like it! And I love your idea about cabbage plates and bowls. I think they are charming, and as soon as I feel like I can be a little extravagant, I am going to buy some! Looking forward to the before and after of your Vermont condo; so far it looks great!

    1. Thanks Kristine! Yes those tulip farms are a must see! The Vermont condo has been a slow process since we live in NJ which is 4 1/2 hours away…but it’s coming along!
