Cozy Winter Decorating Ideas:

Create a cozy winter aesthetic with vintage items…

Sometimes, you can find inspiration in unexpected places.  Last night, we had pre-dinner drinks at The Boat House, a tiny iconic bar in Lambertville, New Jersey.   Between the vintage furnishings and the nautical artwork and decor, I felt like I stepped back in time…or maybe into a Ralph Lauren living room…or a Hemingway novel. Either way, the dark wood, vintage books and unique pieces had me thinking about how to add more character to my own home this winter.  So, I guess I’ll be heading to the thrift store in the near future.

Repurpose cozy items this winter…

A few years ago, I used to wear those huge blanket scarves…I think we all did.  Sure, they were warm and cozy but they were also very bulky and I quickly got tired of mine.  While doing a January cleaning in my closet, I made a pile of my plaid scarves to donate.  Then had an idea to repurpose some for my cozy winter decorating.  So, to brighten up my dining room for January, I used one of my scarves as a table throw.

Even though the vibrant plaid gave some life to my dining table, I wanted a more subtle feel that didn’t compete with the wall color.  So, I folded the scarf into a table runner for a simpler look.  I’ll probably keep this “runner” out for now…unless I decide to do something for Valentine’s Day in here.
