Lovely Red Decorating Ideas for February (and Beyond)
Happy weekend and welcome to the Saturday Spotlight! Each week, I like to highlight a different theme or topic to inspire you. Since it’s almost Valentine’s Day, today we’ll highlight some “lovely” red decorating ideas! (This blog post has been updated from 2022.)

Red Decorating Ideas:
Of course, red roses come to mind this time of year…
In February, red roses are in demand…and can be more expensive. Though, if you look in your local grocery store or Trader Joes, you can usually find a nice bouquet for a reasonable price.
Though, there are plenty of other ways to decorate with red for Valentine’s Day and throughout the year…
Simple Red Tablescape:
Beat the crowds and celebrate Valentine’s Day at home this year…
Create a Valentine’s Day Tablescape with pops of red!
Instead of buying Valentine-specific red accessories, consider buying plain red items. For instance, you could use classic red napkins for Christmas, Valentine’s Day or even the 4th of July. To stretch your decorating budget, think of ways you could reuse items throughout the year.
Brighten up your mantel with red tulips:
With quick trip to the grocery store, you can add some cheerful color…
Since tulips are definitely cheaper than red roses this time of year, you can get a bunch and fill up your mantel! To see the details of this mantel, read – Simple Spring Mantel with Red Tulips.
Add a Red Rug:
In my foyer, I used to have this red rug by the door…
When we repainted our dining room, I switched this red rug to a navy one. Though, I did love the warmth the red gave the space.
Subtle Red Decorating Ideas:
Add a touch of red with throw pillows…
In my living room, I decorated with two red block print pillows on my seagrass chairs. Besides coordinating with the bits of red on my area rug, they add some color to the neutral chairs.
Create a Red Valentines’ Day Vignette:
Decorate with a few simple red accessories…
If any of your walls are red…even better! Use them as a background for a Valentine’s Day vignette…
Even though my dining room walls are now navy blue, I enjoyed the red for many years!
Paint Something Red:
Choose red for your walls…or ceiling!
For those of you who really want to make a statement with red, consider painting the ceiling like they did in this designer showhouse!
Red Shopping Ideas for the Home:
When decorating with red, a little goes a long way…
Add a splash of red to your decor with this pretty red pillow cover! This red pillow cover would be perfect for Christmas, Valentine’s day and beyond! And as you can see, the pretty pattern also comes in two other colors!
Or go with a farmhouse style red ticking stripe pillow that you could also keep out all year!
Go bold with some red and white buffalo check curtains…
In previous years, I’ve hung similar curtains in my kitchen. One time, I left them up from Christmas through Valentine’s Day and actually felt sad when I took them down.

I remember your Christmas kitchen with red & white buffalo check curtains. I pinned that post from here to Friday-I liked it so much! I also really like the Bernyce pillow, but I was very drawn to the blue version! Not so sure about a red ceiling…that takes some daring! Happy Valentine’s Day!
Yes, the red ceiling is definitely daring – but it worked in a designer showhouse! Thanks so much for your kind words and all the pins! Have a Happy Valentine’s Day!
