Plaid Christmas Tree Ideas:

For a traditional look, wrap your tree with plaid ribbon…

One of the easiest ways to change the look of your tree is with decorative ribbon.  When I decorated my red and blue Christmas tree, I coordinated the plaid ribbon with my dining room table setting and my navy blue walls.  Between the plaid ribbon and the dark rich colors, the tree had a Ralph Lauren vibe.

Additional Tips to Enhance the Look:

  • Add red bows and berry clusters.
  • To add more pattern, display gifts wrapped in plaid wrapping paper.
  • Tuck pine cones into the tree for natural elegance.

Go casual with classic red plaid and buffalo checks…

Once again, just by changing ribbon, you can give your tree a whole new look.  One year, I decorated my foyer tree with red and black plaid ribbon and mixed in buffalo plaid ornaments along with a buffalo check tree skirt.  The checks and plaid gave the tree a casual feel that I carried throughout my home that Christmas season.

Additional Tips for a Casual Plaid Tree:

  • Add white snowflake ornaments to lighten up all the red and black.
  • If you want to go more rustic, add natural elements like wood pieces, pine cones or twigs.

Use a plaid blanket (or blanket scarf) for your tree skirt…

If you’re like me, you still own a bunch of those plaid blanket scarves that you no longer wear.  Before you get rid of them, reuse them as tree skirts.  You could also style them as table throws or runners this Christmas.

Hang plaid ornaments on your Christmas tree…

For a kids bedroom, I think it’s a cute idea to decorate a small tree with little plaid stockings.  You could even turn it into an advent tree and fill the stockings with daily treats!
