How to Create a Fall Feeling in Your Home this Season

Happy weekend and welcome to the Saturday Spotlight where I share weekly inspiration!  Well, it’s mid- October and here in the northeast the leaves are changing into beautiful colors.  In a week or two, we should be reaching peak foliage in New Jersey.  Now that the outside is feeling like fall, today I’m sharing some ideas to bring the fall feeling inside!

Create a Fall Feeling in Your Home:

Bring the outside in…

Even though the fall season is here, my hydrangea bushes are still holding on to their flowers.  This week, I cut a bunch off and decorated a simple autumn wreath for my foyer.  Because I styled my home with blue and white for fall this year, I added a blue checked ribbon to tie the wreath in with the rest of my decor…

Originally, I was going to cover the whole grapevine wreath with hydrangeas but I decided to let some to twigs show for a more rustic fall look.  Otherwise, I think it could have looked more like a summer wreath than a fall wreath.

Since this hydrangea wreath was too fragile to hang on the outside of my front door, I hung it inside where we can see it everyday.  As I mentioned, the blue ribbon coordinates with the rest of my blue and white decor.  Of course, they’re not exactly traditional fall colors but I made them work in my home.  To see my fall home tour, read – Blue and White Fall Decorating Ideas.

Decorate with mums inside your home…

Traditionally, people decorate the outside of their homes with mums for the fall season.  But, can you bring mums inside?  Sure, why not?!  As long as you keep them watered, they should be fine!  One year, I decorated my bar cart for fall using neutrals and white mums.  This was just one of my 3 Ways to Decorate a Bar Cart for Fall.

Light some cozy candles for a fall feeling…

This time of year, it gets dark so early!  So, to add some ambiance to your home, light a few cozy candles.  As I mentioned, this year I used blue and white in my fall decor and this was one of my vignettes…

Plan your Thanksgiving table setting…

Now that it’s fall, Thanksgiving will be here before we know it!  Last year, I waited until the last minute and pulled together a table setting inspired by a pretty flower arrangement some friends sent us.  Luckily, I found table accessories that coordinated perfectly.  Dining room table with china, green trellis napkins, flowers and candles - fall feeling

Since we always host a bunch of people, we end up with a bunch of mis-matched chairs… Although, I guess that’s pretty normal for most families.

In the photo below, I managed to hide the mismatched chairs…haha

Create a simple and inexpensive Thanksgiving centerpiece…

As I mentioned, last year our friends sent us a floral centerpiece for Thanksgiving.  In other years, I’ve created some inexpensive centerpieces with various items.  For those ideas, read – 5 Simple Centerpiece Ideas for Thanksgiving.

While you’re gathering ideas for Thanksgiving, try a new recipe…

This week, I shared a great side dish that’s perfect for Thanksgiving or any cozy autumn dinner.  After all, fall is great time to enjoy comfort food.  For that recipe, see – Corn Casserole Recipe with Cream Cheese and Mushrooms.

To add a fall feeling to your home, you can’t go wrong with a scented candle! This one has a great mixture of fall scents and is made in the USA!

Now that it’s sweater weather, add a few of these to your list!  I’ve ordered several pieces from this company and I love their quality…and prices!
