Goodbye August Hello September (Decorating & More!)

Happy Labor Day Weekend and welcome to the Saturday Spotlight where I share weekly inspiration!  As we flip the calendar from August to September, many of us are ready for a fresh start.  Between the change of seasons, back to school routines and other transitions, the month of September almost feels like a new year.  With that in mind, I’m sharing ways to say Goodbye August, Hello September!

Goodbye August Hello September – Home Ideas:

Start off the new month by freshening up an area of your home…

Over the past few years, our kitchen chairs have been scratching the hardwood floors. Yes, we have pads on the chairs but the floors were still getting scraped.  The other day, I finally decided to add a faux seagrass rug to the room.  Actually, I bought the rug about a year ago but it’s been sitting in the basement.  Why I procrastinate on these things, I’ll never know!  Anyway, we rolled out the rug in our kitchen and I couldn’t be happier!  Not only does the rug hide all the scratches but it’s an outdoor rug so it’s easy to clean!  If you’d like to purchase one for yourself, this is my exact rug.  For my kitchen, I bought the 7’10” x 10’10” size.

When I finish decorating for early fall, I’ll show you more angles of this rug in my kitchen.  In fact, make sure you swing by my blog the week of September 16th.  That week, I’m joining a group of bloggers for an annual Fall Home Tour!  In the meantime, here is a look back at how I decorated for fall last year…

Podcast and book recommendation…

If your kids are also heading to college this fall, tell them to listen to The Mel Robbins Podcast – Episode 207 where she discusses “8 Things I Wish I Knew in College”.  As a parent, I found it so helpful but it’s really a must-listen for college students!

Welcome September with a new book…

After all, September 6th happens to be National Read a Book Day!  If you’re like me, you’re working your way through a stack of books on your bedside table.  Recently, I finished Jim Kwik’s book, Limitless Expanded Edition: Upgrade Your Brain, Learn Anything Faster, and Unlock Your Exceptional Life.  From speed reading tips to ways to focus…and more, this is a must read for anyone working on improvement goals.  Plus, September is National Self Improvement month, so there ya go!
