My Thanksgiving Table Runner Ideas:

Dress up an existing table runner with ribbon…

If you already own a basic table runner, lay a festive ribbon down the edges.  I just happened to find ribbon with the words, “Be Thankful” written on it but any seasonal ribbon would be pretty.  For instance, you could add a colorful ribbon to coordinate with your table.  Or, introduce some patterns with checks, plaid or even some turkeys.  (If you can find a turkey ribbon!)

Just this simple addition can elevate your table from basic fall to Happy Thanksgiving!

Style your Thanksgiving table runner with white pumpkins…

Yes, there’s that burlap runner again!  (What can I say, it’s a great decorating staple!)  One year, I scattered some real and faux white pumpkins down the middle of the runner.  I also added some eucalyptus, pine cones, mini pumpkins and candles for an elegant look.

Add pattern with your Thanksgiving table runner:

If you’re not using a decorative table cloth, bring some interest to your table with a patterned runner instead.  For a subtle approach, use a classic tone on tone pattern like the one in the photo below.

When decorating with a neutral table runner, you can bring in more color with coordinating napkins.

Feature a block print table runner on your Thanksgiving table…

With block prints being so popular lately, consider adding some to your table.  Recently, I decorated a fall table with my new block print runner as a starting point.  Since I had some blue and white napkins with a touch of brown, I worked them into the table.  From there I added more blue in the place settings with the checkered placemats.

Even though I decorated the table with a few different patterns, they vary in scale so they work well together.  To see more details of this table, read – Neutral Fall Tablescape (Simple and Classic Ideas).

Decorate with a blue and white fall table runner…

In my world, blue and white looks great year round!  Last year, I decorated a fall table with a blue and white pumpkin theme.  To choose items for the table, I used the colors from the runner.

If you’re not expecting a huge crowd, take away the end chairs and drape the end of the table runner over the edge.  In my opinion, it makes a great focal point when you enter the room.  Plus, you get to appreciate more of the table runner design from a distance.  For more pictures and details from this fall table, read – Blue and White Fall Decorating Ideas.

More ideas for Thanksgiving table runners:

  • If you have a large blanket scarf, use that as a table runner.
  • Fold over an extra piece of fabric (or even a curtain panel for length!).
  • For a casual table runner, cut up a long piece of wrapping paper.
  • Buy a roll of craft paper and draw your own design for the center of your table.
  • Create a sparkly table runner with mirrors, candles and fairy lights.
  • Line up placemats end to end to “create” a table runner look.
