Happy weekend – and welcome to the Saturday Spotlight! Can you believe that July is almost over? If you’re like me, you have a huge list of summer home improvement ideas and projects you’d love to accomplish. From gardening to decorating and organizing, there’s always something to tackle! Summer Home Improvement Projects and Plans:
Do you ever notice how one simple change can make a huge impact?
Recently in my foyer, I switched my dark red rug for a new navy blue rug. (You can get a peek of the previous red rug in my foyer decorating blog post.) Though hardly a home improvement “project“, the simple change definitely improved the look of the space.

At first, I thought I wanted to go lighter with the rug but after a few days, I decided to keep this one! Sometimes, you need to live with something before making a decision. Now I can’t imagine a different rug in that spot. Plus, the new rug goes so well with my navy blue walls in the dining room!
Speaking of navy blue…
Recently, I purchased a couple rolls of peel and stick navy blue wallpaper. I chose a style with a grasscloth look and I think it will be beautiful on the backs on my office bookcases.. Though I’ll admit, I’m a little nervous about this project so I’ve been putting it off for several weeks. As soon as I get up the nerve, I’ll get moving and then share the project in a blog post…so stay tuned!
Also, if I end up with leftover pieces of wallpaper, I have some plans for that too! Now I’m sure you’re on the edge of your seat with anticipation…lol.
Ongoing Summer Organization Projects:
Garage clean up ideas…
Although, I’m not sure how “blogworthy” it will be, I plan to continue organizing some additional areas of my garage…
Last year, I worked on organizing the pool and patio section of my garage and it made a huge difference! To this day, we’ve kept that space neat and organized and I love how cabana-like it still feels!
Sometimes a huge project like organizing a whole garage can feel overwhelming. For me, breaking it up into sections makes the job less intimidating and much more doable!
A Paint Project You Can Accomplish in a Weekend:
Update an old vanity or piece of furniture…
If you don’t want a huge time commitment with your summer home improvement project, consider something you can achieve in a weekend. A few years ago, I painted the vanity in our sons’ bathroom…
Since I wanted to remodel their bathroom on a budget, painting the vanity was much cheaper than buying a new one. Basically, the whole project took a couple days and I was thrilled with the results. If you’re thinking of painting a cabinet in your home, be sure to read my painting tips!
Behind the Scenes Summer Projects:
(Not home improvement related but still worth mentioning)…

Thanks so much, Lisa! Hopefully, I won’t destroy my bookshelves with this attempt…lol.
I’d be nervous with wallpaper too. Other bloggers say it’s easy.
Navy blue grass cloth paper sounds perfect for the back of your bookcase.
Thanks Cindy! I only try the easiest of the easy projects so I hope I can handle it!

That dark blue rug is gorgeous! It looks beautiful with the wood tones in your home. I also love your new theme – in fact, I have the same one! I’m still tweaking mine too even though I have had it for a few months 😉 Pinning this post!
Thanks so much, Cindy! It took me awhile to choose a rug for the spot, but like I said, I always love navy! I’ll have to look at your blog to compare theme details. I still have to tweak a few things!
