Middle of July – Simple Summer Decorating:
Americana style for the 4th and July and beyond…
I’ve always loved red, white and blue for summer decorating. After all, we begin summer with Memorial Day weekend, then there’s Flag Day and of course, the 4th of July. Then we wrap up the summer with Labor Day. To me, it just makes sense to bring out the patriotic colors when decorating for those holidays. Plus, the Americana style feels coastal and nautical…and just overall summery! So this summer, I added some patriotic touches to my fireplace mantel.

Then to spread out a little more Americana style, I styled my coffee table with some red, white and blue.

Neutrals and textures for cool summer vibes…
Even though I decorated with color in my home, I can also appreciate classic neutrals for summer. On a recent trip to Pottery Barn, this neutral furniture display caught my eye. I love the layering of textures and the way the rug and woven pendant just make this space so inviting!

Decorate with hydrangeas – the quintessential summer flower…
One way to add some summer to your home is with flowers. Throughout the summer, different varieties of hydrangeas have started to bloom in my backyard. If you grow them in your yard, be sure to cut a bunch to decorate inside your home in late summer and early fall!

Middle of July – Appetizer for summer guests:
Charcuterie board for summer entertaining…
For an easy no-cook appetizer, put together a charcuterie board. This summer, I’ve made quite a few of these for guests. If you want to make one ahead of time, it’s easy to stick it in the fridge until your friends arrive. Just wait to add the crackers so they don’t get soggy in the fridge.

My Charcuterie Board Tips:
- Start with a wooden board (marble is also great and easier to clean).
- Choose a variety of cheeses, fruit and sliced cured meats.
- Fill small bowls with nuts and dipping sauces. For my board I used walnuts, candied pecans, chocolate covered almonds, fig preserves and yogurt.
- Spread out different cheeses in sections of the board.
- Tuck in clusters of red and green grapes.
- Add colorful fruits like cut strawberries and raspberries.
- Layer in cured meats like salami or pepperoni. (I like to put those next to the cheeses so they don’t touch the fruit).
- Fill in the gaps with various crackers.
