June Recap – Simple Summer Decorating:
Boxwoods are always a classic…
This June, I kept my seasonal decorating very simple. On my kitchen windowsill, I lined up three blue and white mini planters and filled them with faux boxwood spheres. Since I’m frequently standing at my kitchen sink, I like to have something pretty to look at while I do dishes…and you can’t go wrong with a little greenery. For more kitchen window sill ideas, read – Easy Kitchen Window Sill Decorating Ideas for Every Season.
To continue with the faux boxwoods, I placed a larger one in my silver urn on my dining room table. This year, I kept my summer decor very simple in that room as well….just a mix of navy of green accessories.
Sometimes, less is more – especially in the summer months!
Boxwoods remind me of the well manicured front lawns you see in east coast beach towns. Speaking of beach towns, at the beginning of June, I attended the annual Spring Lake Historical House Tour. As expected, the homes were amazing with beautiful curb appeal. Too bad they didn’t allow interior photos!
June Recap – NJ Bloggers:
Gardening and blogging inspiration…
Even though I don’t have a green thumb, I’m learning from someone who does! Last week, I met one of my favorite bloggers, master gardner, Stacy Ling (from Bricks ‘n Blooms blog). She made an appearance to promote her gardening book at Chapter One Bookstore in Mendham, NJ. It was so wonderful to meet her after all these years of blogging!
If you haven’t read her book yet, I suggest you order a copy – The Bricks ‘n Blooms Guide to a Beautiful and Easy-Care Flower Garden. Whether you’re a beginner or just looking for tips to become a better gardener, her book is the perfect guide! With her encouraging advice, Stacy makes you feel that anyone can become a more confident gardener. And her book is filled with gorgeous photos from her garden too!
June Recap – Family Favorite Appetizer:
Tomatoes with Pesto Sauce on French Bread…
On Father’s Day, the boys and I made my husband one of his favorite appetizer recipes. (Originally, I hadn’t planned to share the share the recipe so this isn’t the best photo!)
Anyway, here’s the super-simple recipe:
Ingredients:
- French bread
- Olive oil
- Tomatoes
- Knorr Pesto Sauce Mix
- Mayonnaise
- Salt & Pepper
Directions:
- Follow directions on pesto sauce mix (I use milk instead of water in directions).
- Add about 1/4 cup of mayonnaise to sauce. (more or less according to your preference)
- Toast slices of french bread with olive oil in a panini press.
- Spread pesto sauce on each piece of bread.
- Top with a fresh slice of tomato
- Sprinkle with fresh ground pepper and salt.
*This recipe is very simple but everyone in the family loves it! It’s even better when you use in-season Jersey tomatoes.
June Recap – Inspiring Store Displays:
Pottery Barn in the Summer…
Every season, I love stopping by Pottery Barn to browse through their beautiful displays. This summer, I’m loving all their textured vases and planters!
And I’m always drawn to a styled bar cart. How pretty are all those blue and white pieces for summer?!!
And of course, Pottery Barn always carries the best patriotic home decor to get you ready for the 4th of July!
June into July Shopping Finds:
So far this summer, here are some more things that caught my eye…
Since many of us are entertaining outdoors, add a pretty melamine bowl to your dishware collection! Don’t you just love the hydrangea design?!!
To add a coastal vibe to your home decor, choose a pretty woven pendant like this one!
If you’re going coastal, add some pretty shell candles to your home this summer!
