2 Weeks Till Christmas (Holiday Decor Ideas & More!)

Hello friends! Welcome to the Saturday Spotlight, where each week, I like to highlight a different theme or topic to inspire you.  Now that we’re in the Christmas countdown period, I thought I’d provide you with some help to finish up your holiday to-do list!  Today, I’ll show you some things I’ve done in my own home along with other ideas I’ve come across. With just 2 weeks till Christmas, here are some decorating, shopping and entertaining ideas!

2 Weeks Till Christmas – Decorating the Tree:

White lights vs colored lights…

In our house, it has always been tradition to buy a real Christmas tree for the living room and decorate it with sentimental ornaments and colored lights.  Even though I prefer white lights, I deal with the colored lights because my family loves them.  Plus, I usually decorate a few additional trees with white lights.  This year, we’re only putting up one tree and we decided to go with the artificial one.  So, while I was decorating the tree the other day, I asked my husband if he minded me using white lights instead of colored.  He said he was fine with it…but he did seem a little sad…

While I stood there wrapping the white lights around the tree, it just felt wrong.  Why was I messing with tradition just to make it look pretty?  So, I pulled off all the white lights and replaced them with the colored lights.  When my husband walked in, I think he was surprised and genuinely grateful for my little gesture.  He actually said that was the best gift I could have given him!  Who knew he was so easy to please?!  Ironically, “tacky trees” with colored lights are supposedly trending this year…so I guess we’re right on trend!  Haha.. a win-win for us all!

2 Weeks Till Christmas – Simple Decorating Ideas:

If you don’t have time to decorate the whole house, add a few holiday vignettes…

Each year, I add a festive vignette to the center of my island.  Most of the time, I’ll use a tray so it’s easy to move if I need the space for entertaining.  For more Christmas tray ideas, read – Kitchen Island Tray Decor (A Cozy Winter Theme).

Create a simple holiday coffee bar on your countertop…

If you’re expecting guests this holiday season, set up a mini coffee bar on your countertop.  For mine, I like to put out some cheerful Christmas mugs, a few decorations and some additions to add to coffee or tea…or even hot chocolate.  To make it super-easy, we just use a Keurig machine so it’s basically self-serve.  For more Christmas coffee ideas, read – Kitchen Countertop Coffee Station Ideas (for Festive Holiday Entertaining).

Display your Christmas china…

When you’re not dining on your holiday china, use it for decoration.  Throw in a few holiday accessories for an extra touch.
