Christmas Decorating Ideas – Holidays at Home:

Now, let’s get started with the holiday decorating ideas!

Before we begin, I want to thank Amber from Follow the Yellow Brick Home for organizing this mini blog hop!  And if you’re arriving from Our Southern Home, Welcome!  Isn’t Christy’s home gorgeous?!!  What an inspiring tour…and the cutest little dog!

Simple Christmas Vignettes:

Sprinkle holiday cheer throughout your home…

Recently, I shared my Christmas Home Tour where I showed my kitchen, family room and Christmas mantel.  Last week, I shared my Blue and White Dining Room Ideas which included my artificial Christmas tree, a holiday table setting with a simple Christmas centerpiece and some other creative Christmas ideas.

Even with two tours, I still wasn’t able to share every single photo I took.  So, today I’ll show you a few holiday vignettes around the house that didn’t make the tours.  For instance, I decorated my round glass tray in the bar area of my kitchen…

Even though I store all my entertaining glasses in the cabinet above, I still like to display a few pieces of crystal in this tray.  If you want to create a quick vignette, a tray is a great place to start.  With a bit of faux greenery and a few Christmas decorations, I dressed up this tray for the holidays.  Recently, I shared some other Christmas tray decorating ideas you also might like.  For even more Christmas tray ideas, read – Christmas Coffee Table Decorating Ideas.

Since a little faux greenery goes a long way, I also added a little Christmas tree to my boys’ bathroom…along with a few reindeer themed accessories.  Being teenagers, they probably didn’t even notice these simple Christmas touches!  At least this bit of holiday cheer makes me happy when I go in there.

A few years back, I made over this bathroom to make it more teen-friendly.  Be sure to check out that before and after for all the details!

Easy Holiday Decorating – Festive Christmas Pillows:

If you don’t have much time to create a Christmas vignette, then just add a few Christmas pillows around your home.

This year, I I used a lot of Fair Isle snowflake patterns in my home so this pillow fit right in.  Since it arrived after I shared my home tour, I’m sharing it now!

Since these fair isle patterns were so popular this year, my exact pillow sold out in red.  Though it’s still available in neutral/gray AND it’s on sale at the moment!

As I’ve mentioned before, I have pillow inserts in several sizes so I usually just buy new pillow covers to update my decor.  I like to think I’m saving a little money that way!  Though, it is easier to store just the covers than big fluffy pillows!

While shopping in Homegoods, I found this adorable woodland theme pillow with a vintage Christmas vibe…

Of course, Homegoods doesn’t usually sell separate pillow covers…but I’m willing to make room in my pillow stash for a few more!  In the game room, my colors are more neutral so I found a spot for this pillow on my tufted bench.

Across the room, I added some greenery and white houses to my pub table where we play chess.  Touches of greenery always looks festive at Christmas time.

And in the living room, the piano is a perfect place to add a strand of garland!  We display our family Christmas tree in this room as well, but for some reason I don’t have a good picture of it.  Maybe I’ll add that later.  Although it’s nothing exciting…just a real Christmas tree with family ornaments and an angel on top that never seems to stay on straight!

Simple Christmas Vignettes – Snowflakes and Sparkle:

Decorate with a classic winter theme…

Down the hall towards the laundry room, I decorated my chalk board with a simple snowflake theme. This chalkboard is always a fun place to display holiday decor and to write a quick message.

To continue with my snowflake/fair isle theme, I tied a bow on my stair garland.  An easy way to update holiday decor from year to year is to just switch ribbons.

This year, I made my life a lot easier with the Christmas lights.  Usually, I wrap the standard plug-in lights around my garland and then have extension cords all over the place.  Instead, this year I bought these battery operated fairy lights and wow, what a difference!  Overall, the lights seem just as bright but I don’t have to worry about tripping over cords.

Speaking of lights, here is how my dining room looks at night.  As I mentioned, I shared my tour last week but that was during the day.  At night time, the room takes on a whole new look.

For a room that doesn’t get used much, we’ve definitely been enjoying it more these past few weeks!

There’s just something so magical about Christmas tree lights…don’t you agree?

Simple Christmas Decorating Takeaways:

  • Decorate trays – create some little vignettes on them.
  • Add some greenery like garland to everyday items.
  • Bring out the Christmas pillows (or change pillow covers).
  • Snowflake themes work for the Christmas season and beyond.
  • Change your ribbon for a new look each year.
  • Use battery powered lights.
