September Wrap Up (Decorating, Shopping & More!)
Happy weekend and welcome to the Saturday Spotlight! Well, September really flew by, didn’t it? Before we jump into all things October, I’m sharing things that did (and didn’t) make the blog during the month of September. From early fall decorating ideas to books, shopping, and more…here’s my September wrap up!

September Wrap Up – Early Fall Vibes:
Savoring our moments outdoors…
This year, I’ve been taking a monthly photo from this same angle. I like to watch the changes in my landscaping from month to month. Lately, my hydrangeas have turned a dusty pink color and they’re looking overgrown and a bit messy from all the rain. In fact, I took this photo right before a nor’easter arrived. Yes, our pool is still open but we’ll be closing it soon. At our house, we try to stretch the summer season as long as possible!

Bringing a little of the outdoors inside…
With an abundance of hydrangeas in our backyard, I clipped a few different varieties to add a seasonal touch to my mantel. Originally, I had red apples up on the mantel but I swapped them for the softer colors of the three hydrangea blooms. I love the way the colors coordinate with the foliage in the artwork.
On my table, I mixed more hydrangeas with apples and candles. This centerpiece was one of the many ways I’ve been decorating with apples. Be sure to check out that blog post for more ideas!
For an even simpler centerpiece, I filled a bowl with apples and eucalyptus.
For a super-easy fall DIY project, see my tutorial for DIY apple candle holders! (I actually posted it on October 1st, but I made them on September 30th so technically it qualifies for my September wrap up!) In that blog post, I shared a bunch of pretty ways to style the apples too! Here’s one example…
But since fresh apples don’t last long on the window sill, I’ve since replaced them with velvet pumpkins for the remaining of the fall. (I’ll probably have to also replace the fresh eucalyptus with faux at some point too.)
September Wrap Up – Recent Reading:
In September, I finished two books (and started another)…
First, I read a super-popular summer romance – Every Summer After. I loved this book for its nostalgic lakeside setting and the chemistry between the two main characters, Percy and Sam. The story brings back emotions of a first love and heartbreak along with the hope of second chances.
*After finishing the book, I watched the series, Every Year After which was so perfectly cast! Although there were many differences in the series compared to the book, I loved seeing it come alive on the screen. As much as I adored the actors, I think I liked the book more. Having said that, I definitely recommend them both!
In keeping with the light summer theme, I read Dolly All The Time, another very popular book. Although this book was predictable and a little far fetched, it was also charming and sweet. I really enjoyed it!
At the end of September, I bought This Oak House, a beautiful decorating book written by Anne Meyers-Shyer (the daughter of the famous Nancy Meyers). On her Instagram account, she’s been documenting her house renovation but she saved most of the photos and details for this lovely book. For the past few days, I’ve been slowly making my way through it while savoring every photo and design tip. If you love interior design, be sure to grab this book. It now has a permanent home on my coffee table!
September Wrap Up – Browsing & Shopping:
Earlier in the month, I stopped by Pottery Barn…
As always, their displays had me wanting to redecorate my whole house! I love the navy blue touches this season and now I’m also thinking about layering rugs.
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I loved seeing their entertaining pieces. Always so much inspiration in Pottery Barn!
A favorite purchase for September…
Early in September, I needed a cream colored clutch for a wedding and found this pretty one! It was perfect for my outfit and I was impressed with the quality. Besides the bone color, it also comes in black and dark brown…great for fall!
September Wrap Up – My Series On Instagram:
In September I continued my “Transformation Tuesday” posts…
Back in August, I began highlighting a space in my home, sharing photos and videos of how it has evolved over the years. In September, I temporarily wrapped up the series with a reel of my kitchen over the years. Once I gather up more photos and videos, I’ll continue with more rooms. Since many of my older photos are physical, it becomes very time consuming!
