September Recap (Fall Decorating, Shopping and More!)

Happy weekend and welcome to the Saturday Spotlight!  This week, I’m sharing a September recap of things that didn’t make the blog during the month.  From fall decorating ideas to shopping and recipes, I hope to inspire you with my look back at the month of September!

September Recap – Early Fall Decorating:

Neutral fall fireplace decor…

Over the past year, I’ve kept my fireplace very simple for every season.  Basically, I change the stems in the vase and swap out the three items in front of the mirror.  This season, I took away the summer greenery and went with golden and neutral tones.  If you’re not feeling very creative, this is a great way to celebrate the seasons without having to overthink!

For my fall “foliage”, I purchased these golden stems.  They were full enough so I only needed to buy three stems.  Of course, you could always cut some branches from your trees if you wanted to go natural.  Most of our trees are still pretty green so I didn’t have that option yet.  Plus, I wanted to add something that will last the entire fall season.

Neutral fall porch in progress…

From the street, my front door looks inviting with my new fall wreath (from Thistlewood & Co.).  But get a little closer and you realize I have some work to do!  Not only do I need to get a new doormat, but I really need to clean the windows and wipe the spider webs!  Or, I can wait until Halloween and use them as decorations – ha!

September Recap – Finding Inspiration:

Fall House Tours…

Last week, I attended the Kitchens By the Sea tasting tour at the Jersey Shore.  It’s an annual fundraising event for the Bay Head School Foundation.  This year, there were nine kitchens on the tour…and they were all stunning!  Of course, they don’t allow photography inside (but you can see a few photos on their website).  To get some ideas, I snapped a few photos in some outside areas…like this gorgeous display of pumpkins and gourds…

One of the sponsors for the event, Willow Oak Custom Planters, designed this porch.  Now I wish I had more stairs on my front porch to recreate this look!  Don’t you love it?

September Recap – A Book to Read this Fall:

In September, I read a popular book…

Finally, I read one of the books that everyone has been talking about – Remarkably Bright Creatures!  To be honest, the concept of the book didn’t really appeal to me at first but I took a chance on it.  Basically, it explores the connection between a widow who works the night cleaning shift at an aquarium and a giant octopus.  But the book was so much more… It was a story about love, loss, friendships and second chances.  I loved how the story is told through the perspectives of the characters…including the octopus.  Such a heartwarming and enjoyable read!

Shopping Finds to Wrap Up September:

As September comes to an end, here are some things that caught my eye…

If you’re looking for textured pumpkins this fall, these are so cute!  (Plus, they are inexpensive and come in two sizes).

For a rustic blue/gray terra cotta urn, I’m loving this one for fall!  (And it has the look of a more expensive Pottery Barn version!)

To add some fall coziness to your bedroom, this quilt looks so luxurious! (Plus, it comes in a bunch of colors!)
