The New Hardwood Floors Are Installed!

Yes, we are moving right along with the renovation over here.  Our contractors just installed our new 4 inch red oak floors!  After the cabinets and appliances are in place, they’ll come back to stain and poly the floors.

Here are a few rooms…

The living room….

Rosie was fascinated by the shadows.

There’s my girl!

She loves the new floors too!

This is the view into the family room.

It’s a shame the blinds are down most of the time in here because of the TV!  Seriously, I forgot how much I love that view.  As you can see, they prepped the fireplace for the stone…which should be coming next week.

Overall, things are moving along except for a new dilemma.

Next week, I’ll be picking out a stain.  Although I am still deciding, I do have a few medium tones in mind.  In the Minwax colors, I am thinking about Provincial, Early American, Special Walnut and now that I just saw my neighbor’s floors – possibly English Chestnut.  So, I guess I need to narrow it down…

Do you have a favorite stain color for hardwood floors?

  1. Looking good! Our floors are stained with Provincial on red oak. I do love the color. It is not TOO red, and the grain of the wood shows through a bit darker which I like. It goes well with many finishes of furniture as well. And, we did have a golden and it hides the hair unlike darker floors. I think there are some pictures from when we spring cleaned our family room on my blog.

  2. Your floors are gorgeous, and your rooms look ginormous. I can't wait to see them finished. You could splurge on remote controlled shades for your family room windows. Up and down at the click of a button. Oh, that view!! Our Minwax special walnut stain on white oak floors are an in between shade that hide Tucker's black lab fur as well as his cousin's blonde lab fur. Camouflages dust, too. (I do clean once in a while, really!) Hiding fur is a very important consideration when choosing the color. Maybe you can sprinkle some of Rosie's fur on the samples. 🙂 Now I'm going to go look at your instagram to see what's up.
