Garden Inspired Home Decor:
Finding inspiration at Terrain…
Last week, I stopped into the Westport, CT location of Terrain! For the past few years, I’ve been admiring their home and garden merchandise online so I was thrilled to visit one of their retail stores. From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed by displays of fresh flowers, plants and gardening essentials. The place feels like a well styled greenhouse.

Throughout the store, the garden inspired merchandise is displayed on vintage furniture. The scent of candles fill the spaces and adds to the cozy ambiance. It’s the kind of store where you could linger all day…and want to buy everything!
If you’re looking for garden inspired dishes, their vine lattice pieces are gorgeous! I’m thinking I could layer some of these with my cabbage ware dishes. Yeah, I guess I need to hint around for Mother’s Day…
Now, how pretty are these ruffled glass flutes? They make me want to plan an elegant garden party!
Some of their locations, including the Westport store, have a charming cafe attached. What a great place to sit and unwind between shopping purchases. Needless, to say, I’m planning another visit soon!
My Terrain purchase…
Since I love cabbage ware dishes, I thought I’d add to my collection with another vegetable-inspired piece…a celery vase! Isn’t it adorable? Of course, once I got it home, I read the tag that stated it wasn’t 100 percent waterproof so I had to use my faux tulips. Though, I’m sure I can line the inside if I want to use real flowers at some point. If you’d like one of these vases, they still offer them on their website.
Make your own celery vase…
If you love the look but would rather go with a DIY option, here are two I created…
For my first celery vase, I simply cut pieces of celery, attached them to a vase with a rubber band and covered the rubber band with twine. Since the celery looked a little bulky, I then switched veggies and made a vase with asparagus instead! Be sure to check out that blog post for specific instructions.
*By the way, April is National Fresh Celery Month…in case you were wondering! Yes, there’s a National Day for everything!
For my second celery vase, I decided to keep the celery in place between two glass vases. To make this one, I just cut the celery to size and slid the pieces between the two vases.
Then I placed a mini bouquet of flowers in the center vase and I was done! Overall, I thought it was a cute idea but didn’t like the way the celery edges looked a little stringy. Plus, I wouldn’t want guests to think this was an edible centerpiece – ha!
Even though these celery vases were pretty and super easy, I actually I prefer the look of my asparagus vase. Check that one out and let me know what you think.
A garden inspired tablescape…
Even if you don’t have a flower garden, you can create a beautiful spring tablescape with grocery store flowers. For my garden themed table, I made a centerpiece using hydrangeas and galvanized containers. To anchor them, I set the containers on a window pane mirror which gave the centerpiece a greenhouse feel.
On each place setting, I layered cabbage ware plates, white dishes and galvanized metal chargers. To continue the garden theme, I set floral embroidered napkins on each place setting. (My late mother in law embroidered these years ago). To see more details of this table, read – Celebrating Spring Tablescape with Flowers.
Garden Inspired Shopping Finds:
Beautiful items to add garden vibes to your home…
For some springy floral embroidered napkins, I love this pretty set.
While shopping in Terrain, somehow I missed this adorable tulip planter!
To bring a garden feel to an indoor or outdoor space, this rug is perfection! (It comes in several sizes but I’m thinking of buying the runner for my kitchen sink area).
If you need a pretty container to display your flowers, this woven vase is such a find! (An amazing price for this size!)
