August Recap (Home Decorating, Shopping and More!)
Happy weekend and welcome to the Saturday Spotlight! Each week, I focus on a different theme or topic to inspire you. This week, I’m sharing an August recap of things that didn’t make the blog during the month. From home decorating ideas to shopping and recipes, I hope to inspire you with my look back at the month of August!

August Recap – Simple Summer Decorating:
Hydrangeas in the foyer…
Earlier this month, I shared ideas for decorating with hydrangeas. Since then, I moved the hydrangea arrangement from my kitchen island to my foyer. The flowers took up too much space on my island…and I think I like them even more in the foyer.

Instead of refreshing the water in the vase, I might just let them dry out in this spot. We’ll see how that goes… Luckily, my hydrangea bushes are still bursting with blooms so I could always cut more!

A coastal candle in the living room…
Since I try to squeeze out every last bit of summer, I don’t rush to pull out the fall decor. In fact, my living room is still full of shells and summery things. In August, I even bought a shell candle to keep up the coastal vibes. If you’re interested in one, I bought the small clam candle (in the navy beach scent). Right now, it looks like they only have the White Fig scent available.

August Recap – Beach Reading:
Read the latest novel from a best selling author…
In August, I finished the latest book from Adriana Trigiani – The View From Lake Como. It’s been awhile since I’ve read any of her novels and I forgot how much a love her writing style. In this story, we follow a recently divorced woman from her home in Lake Como, New Jersey to Lake Como, Italy to basically find herself. It’s a heartwarming story filled with humor, self discovery and complicated family dynamics. Definitely, an enjoyable read!

August Recap – End of Summer Scenes…
Deer family spotted on my evening walk…
Where we live in New Jersey, we get tons of deer in our yards. Of course, they are a nuisance because they eat our outdoor plants…but they are beautiful to watch. One evening on my walk, I encountered a whole family. How cute are those babies?!!

Cooler mornings allowed us to open the windows…
As much as I wish summer would last longer, I won’t complain when we get some cooler temperatures. Lately, I’ve been able to open the windows in the early mornings. So nice to smell the fresh air!

August Recap – Summer Cocktails:
This summer, we tried some new cocktail recipes by the pool…
Besides our usual margaritas (made with a pre-made mix), we also made our own Painkillers from scratch. This drink has become one of my favorites when we travel to the Caribbean. So, this summer, we decided to make them at home!

Painkiller Drink Recipe (for 2):
Ingredients:
- 4 ounces Rum
- 8 ounces pineapple juice
- 2 ounces orange juice
- 2 ounces cream of coconut
- freshly grated nutmeg
- Ice
Directions:
- Add liquid ingredients and ice to a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously.
- Pour into a large glass filled about halfway with more ice cubes.
- Sprinkle nutmeg on top.
- Garnish with orange slice.
- Cheers!
August into September Shopping Finds:
As August came to an end, here were some things that caught my eye…
While you’re transitioning your home from summer to fall, this beautiful pillow cover works for both seasons!
If I didn’t already have a bar cart, I would get this beautiful one! And it’s currently on SALE!
For an inexpensive way to add texture to your home in summer or fall, this candle holder is a great find!
Since everyone always asks about my horse statue, this is the exact one I bought! In my opinion, it’s a great way to add a little bit or Ralph Lauren vibes to my home (or Brady Bunch!…haha).
To mix up summer or fall cocktails, you can’t go wrong with a stainless steel cocktail shaker!
