Spring Nesting – Simple Ideas for Outdoor Spaces

Hello friends!  Is your weather starting to feel like spring?  For the most part, our weather in New Jersey has been all over the place with too many rainy days mixed in!  Hopefully, we’ll be getting more sun this week so we can start enjoying our outdoor living areas.  So far, I’ve managed to do a little spring nesting to make our patio more inviting for our family.  Now, if the day finally comes where we can actually have guests over again…we’ll be ready!

Today, I’m hoping to inspire you with some simple ideas for outdoor spaces.

Essential Ideas for Outdoor Spaces – Flowers:

If you only do one thing to decorate your outdoor spaces for spring, then you have to plant some flowers!  In my opinion, flowers make a yard feel so cheerful and welcoming.

Last year, we put in a bunch of new landscaping when we installed our patio and pool.  It’s been so exciting to see everything start to bloom this spring.  In the past, I mostly did container gardening on our deck because the deer would eat everything on the ground.   Now that we have a fenced in area around the pool, the deer can’t reach our flowers.  Thankfully, it’s opened up a whole new world of flower gardening for us!

Dining Alfresco on the Patio:

One of my favorite ways to decorate outdoors is to set the patio table.  As long as the weather is cooperating, we make every effort to eat as many meals as possible on the patio.  As you can see, I set my most recent table with flowers straight from my yard.  Though, the orchid in the center is faux.  Basically, I needed a little height to disguise the pole…but I do love decorating with them.  If you’re a fan of orchids, be sure to check out my orchid decorating ideas!

To keep each setting simple, I just placed one flower on each napkin.  I think it’s a great way to add some color while coordinating with the flowers in the center of the table.

You can’t go wrong with a blue and white background…especially for spring and summer.

Make Outdoor Areas an Extension of Your Indoor Areas:

If you read my blog, you know that I frequently decorate with blue and white so it only made sense to continue those colors outside.

Throughout my home, many of my backgrounds are neutral so the pops of colors can stand out…just like on the patio.

It’s also fun to bring a few indoor accessories outside.

A Place to Get Cozy:

While nesting outdoors, it’s nice to have a cozy place to hang out.  Our family has loved gathering around our fire pit in the evenings.  Last summer, the neighborhood kids were back here almost every night.  Needless to say, we went through a ton of marshmallows!

Even if you don’t have a firepit, you can always set up a cluster of chairs for a comfy space to hang out.  One of these days, I plan to update my plastic Adirondack chairs with some more substantial ones, but these work fine for now.   We had our fire pit custom made but if you are looking for something similar, this fire pit has the same style.

Get creative and surround the spot with candles or outdoor lights for some ambiance in the evening.  Throw some pillows and blankets on the chairs, grab a bottle of wine and you’ll be set for the night.

But if you do have a firepit, you must always keep s’mores ingredients on hand!  It’s practically a requirement!

Hopefully, I’ve inspired you to decorate your outdoor areas as living spaces.

While we are all home, it’s nice to have additional areas where we can hang out!

You have a beautiful patio area. The fire pit does look cozy, and now I want a some s’mores! What a wonderful place for your children and their friends to hang out. Growing up, our backyard was the neighborhood hang out place. The yard always had something going on… badminton, kick-the-can, softball.

    Happy spring,
