Hello friends and welcome to the Saturday Spotlight! Each week, I like to highlight a different home related theme or topic to inspire you. According to the calendar, the first day of spring is only a month away. Even though some of you already getting some spring weather, here in the northeast, it’s still winter! Today, I’m sharing some end of February ideas for you and your home.

Decorating While It’s Still Winter:
In February, you’ll find plenty of winter decor on sale…
Since most stores are displaying their spring merchandise, many winter items have gone on sale. For instance, I just bought this rustic forest pillow for our condo in Vermont. Last weekend, we were there and got around 24 inches of snow in the mountains. Overall, it looks like winter will be sticking around up north so I’ll be displaying my new pillow for awhile!
If it’s dreary outside, add some color inside…
For the past month or so, I’ve been experimenting with new looks for my blue antique dresser. After adding the gold mirror above it, I felt like I needed a little more blue. So, I swapped the plain lampshade for a blue pleated one and I love it. The vignette is definitely feeling more like spring than winter now!

Add some character with vintage items…
By the way, if you’re looking for a similar vintage dresser, (and are in the New Jersey/Pennsylvania area), I just spotted another one at The People’s Store in Lambertville, New Jersey. This one is in the same booth I bought mine but it’s more navy in color and the hardware is more of a shiny brass. I hate to admit it, but I actually like the shape of this one even more than mine! Plus, it has more of a nautical vibe which would be great for anyone decorating in coastal style. After all, the “fisherman aesthetic” is supposed to be very popular in 2025!
While shopping that day, I also found this winter themed painting. Although I’m not thrilled with the frame, the painting really speaks to me…and I might go back and buy it!
One thing I did buy was this wooden duck. So far, I haven’t decided where to put it but I love the shape and the dark wood.
Decorate with pine cones…
In my opinion, you can decorate with pine cones from fall through the end of winter. When I shared my winter decorating ideas, I used pine cones on a table setting and in several winter vignettes in my kitchen.

Get Cozy During the Last Month of Winter:
Enjoy an evening by a fireplace…
During this time of year, I’m always looking for restaurants with fireplaces. One of my favorites is The Foundry in Killington, VT. Just the other night, we had dinner at the best table – right in front of the fire!
Bake something that tastes and smells great…
Since February 23rd is National Banana Bread Day, here’s our family recipe that can be made into muffins or bread! If you really want to celebrate these national days, make the muffins for breakfast. After all, February is also National Hot Breakfast Month! Haha…

Shelley,
Your blogs are lovely! I especially enjoyed this one, as I used to ski Killington quite often. What a beautiful area!
I actually enjoy winter. We’ve had LOTS of snow here east of Syracuse in Ontario’s lake affect area, so pretty.
I also enjoy watching daffodils and tulips “spring” up from their sleep, a couple months from now🌷
Thanks so much Tricia! Yes, I’ve noticed your area has gotten a ton of snow this winter! Glad to hear you’re familiar with Killington. It really is a special place!
I’ve been leaving my pinecones out for a long time because I love them! And that winter painting – you must go back for it. (:
Yes, pine cones are a great accessory! I know…I’ve been thinking about that painting! Thanks for stopping by to comment!
