Happy weekend and welcome to the Saturday Spotlight!   Now that October has come to an end, some of us are planning for Thanksgiving…and some of us are jumping right to Christmas!  Before we go anywhere, today I’m sharing things that did (and didn’t) make the blog during the month of October.  From fall decorating ideas to books, shopping, travel and more…here’s my October wrap up!

October Wrap Up – Fall Vibes:

Porch pumpkin inspiration…

Earlier in October, I attended the Spring Lake Kitchen Tour.  For the event, many of the homeowners also decorated their porches…like this pretty one below.  Of course, they didn’t allow any photos inside the homes.  Although…if you’d like a peek into some of the homes, scroll through their Instagram feed!Pumpkin display on porch - October wrap up

Simple fall vignettes…

This fall, I created a few vignettes to celebrate the season.  In my kitchen bar area, I tucked two mini velvet pumpkins into a little pot with some eucalyptus.  Then I set a woven pumpkin beside the decanter and glasses on my round tray.  I love the mix of textures, especially the way the woven pumpkin looks next to the sparkly glassware.fall vignette on round glass tray - October wrap up

On the other side of the kitchen, I filled my silver champagne bucket with some late-season hydrangeas from my yard.  I always love seeing how the blooms change color in the fall. Some had turned a deep burgundy, while others still had a little pink and green. I set the bucket by the window where the sun could catch all those pretty colors.  large burgundy hydrangeas in champagne bucket on kitchen counter - October wrap up

Eventually, I moved the arrangement into my dining room where it wouldn’t get knocked into as easily.  I think I’ll hang onto these through Thanksgiving.Pink and burgungy hydrangeas in silver champagne bucket - October wrap up

A slightly spooky Halloween kitchen…

Yes, I know Halloween has come and gone but in case you missed it, here’s my Halloween kitchen and table.  With black crows as my inspiration, I used them to add a few spooky touches to my kitchen.  Since my kids are grown, I don’t go too crazy with Halloween decor any more.White kitchen with table set with orange napkins and black crows - Halloween aesthetic ideas

October Wrap Up – Vermont Fall Travel:

A visit to the Vermont Country Store…

Early in October, I headed up to Vermont for a couple days.  Since I took a different route this time, I was able to stop in the Rockingham location of the charming Vermont Country Store.Vermont Country store exterior - October wrap up

As expected, the shelves were stocked with Vermont maple syrup, various kitchen finds everything you would expect from an old New England general store.Maple syrup display - October wrap up

An afternoon in Woodstock, VT…

Whenever I travel to Vermont, I make sure I spend the day in iconic Woodstock.  On the day I visited, the town was bustling with tourists enjoying the beautiful weather and the fall foliage.  Three Adirondack chairs on front lawn of the Woodstock Inn - October wrap up

Recently, Farmhouse Pottery opened another location in the heart of downtown Woodstock.  Although smaller than the flagship store down the street, the new location was packed with all the classic pieces you’d expect to find.  A lovely little store!Farmhouse Pottery store in Woodstock VT

October Wrap Up – Recent Reading:

In October, I read the latest from one of my favorite authors…

If you’re looking for a sweet fall read with heartfelt family drama, I suggest Falling for Peachtree Bluff by Kristy Woodson Harvey.  Even if you haven’t read the earlier books in the series, the opening recap helps you catch up.  This time around, there’s wedding planning, some home renovation drama and the usual Southern vibes.  For a cozy book to curl up with on a chilly fall afternoon, add this to your list!Falling for Peachtree Bluff book - October wrap up
