Halloween Aesthetic – Finding Inspiration in our Yard

Apparently, our house has been getting ready for Halloween for a while…

Over the summer, two black crows loved hanging out on our roof, squawking away as if they owned the place.  Coincidentally, friends recently gifted us a few fall goodies, including black crow kitchen towels.  Between our noisy rooftop visitors and those towels, I decided to use black crows as the inspiration for this year’s slightly spooky kitchen!

I don’t have any rooftop photos, but here they are with their crow friends!

Setting a Halloween Table with Black, White and Burnt Orange

Start with a striped table runner and textured placemats…

To give this table a casual foundation, I started with a black striped table runner and black textured placemats. The mix of stripes and woven texture adds interest while letting the floral china and burnt orange napkins stand out.Top view of table setting with black striped runner and orange napkins - Halloween aesthetic ideas

Layer black and white floral china with burnt orange napkins…

The classic floral pattern gives the table a slightly dressier feel, while the warm napkins and Halloween accents keep it casual and welcoming.  Plus, it’s an excuse to bring out the good china without feeling to formal! Two forks next to layered black and white floral china with burnt orange napkin - Halloween aesthetic ideas

Add small velvet pumpkins to finish each place setting…

To finish each place setting, I topped the china with a small velvet pumpkin. Their soft texture adds a cozy touch, while the mix of warm orange and neutral shades complements the napkins. black and white place setting with burnt orange napkin and velvet pumpkin

Also, you might notice that I used a bread plate layered over a white salad plate for my head settings but just patterned salad plates for the other four settings.  Although this looks intentional, I did this because I only own four patterned salad plates!  Years ago, I bought this china in an outlet which closed before I finished building my set.  One of these days, I’ll buy more from Replacements.com.

Creating a Slightly Spooky Centerpiece

Arrange black lanterns along the runner…

Along the striped runner, I placed my black lanterns to give the centerpiece some height and repeat the black accents.  These lanterns are some of my go-to decorating items that I’ve owned for years.   black lantern and crows on striped table runner with black and orange place setting with pumpkin - halloween aesthetic ideas

Tuck in decorative black crows for a simple Halloween touch…

For a playful Halloween touch, I tucked in a few decorative black crows among the lanterns.  These inexpensive finds have wire on their feet, so you can also attach them to a wreath or secure them to other decorations.  They don’t stand up very well on their own though!  Black crow on striped table runner - Halloween aesthetic ideas

Surround a glass hurricane with foliage to complement the napkins…

In the center of the table, I surrounded a glass hurricane with warm golden foliage to complement the burnt orange napkins. The leaves soften the black lanterns and bring a little fullness to the centerpiece. With a simple ivory pillar candle inside, the hurricane adds a cozy glow for an evening around the table.Candle in glass hurricane surrounded by golden foliage on table - Halloween aesthetic ideas

Enjoy a cozy yet slightly creepy Halloween table…

With everything in place, the table feels cozy and welcoming with just a hint of Halloween spookiness.  Halloween table decorated with black, white and burnt orange in white kitchen

Set the mood for Halloween entertaining with candlelight…

And for some extra Halloween ambiance, dim the kitchen lights and turn off the lights in attached rooms.  Then light the candles and enjoy a slightly spooky but cozy dinner!Night view of Halloween table with black and orange - Halloween aesthetic ideas

Carrying the Halloween Aesthetic into the Kitchen

Add black accessories with natural textures…

Highlight the black crows on hanging towels…

As I mentioned, our friends gave us two black crow towels as a gift.  They’re the perfect added touch for my slightly spooky kitchen.Black crow on kitchen towel hanging on stove - Halloween aesthetic ideas

Carry more black crows onto the window sill and sink area…

Every season, I like to change my windowsill decor.  A couple more black crows and a mini pumpkin were just enough.  To see more seasonal window sill ideas, read – Easy Kitchen Window Sill Decorations for Every Season.black crows and orange mini pumpkin on window sill

Mix in more touches of black and Halloween decor…

The same friends who bought me the black crow towels, also bought me this cute “Boo” board.  To decorate this kitchen corner, I just repeated more of the colors from the table.Orange pumpkin and Halloween decorations on kitchen counter

Once again, dim the lights to add to the Halloween ambiance…

This time of year, it gets dark so early, so this Halloween aesthetic is easy to enjoy well before dinner. With the lights dimmed and the candles glowing, the kitchen takes on a cozy, slightly spooky feel. Even those little black crows look a bit more mysterious after dark!White kitchen with dim lights and hurricane candle on fall table - Halloween aesthetic ideas

Simple Tips to Recreate the Look:

  • Choose a small palette of black, white and warm orange.
  • Mix everyday dishes and lanterns with seasonal accessories.
  • Repeat a few details throughout the room to connect the displays.

Who knew those crazy crows would inspire this year’s Halloween kitchen?  Thankfully, our visitors were crows and not rats!  I’m not sure I could have embraced that decorating theme!  Anyway, I hope I inspired you with my slightly spooky Halloween aesthetic!
