Now, let’s get started with my coastal table setting ideas!

Recently, I decorated my kitchen table because that’s where we dine most often.  Well, unless, we’re eating outdoors…but not in this heat!

Sometimes it’s just more comfortable to have dinner inside…with the air conditioner on.  When entertaining, I usually set up appetizers on the island and then we head over to the table for our dinner.

Coastal Blue and White Decor:

When we think of coastal decorating, blue is usually the first color that comes to mind.  So, I started with blue and decided to go with the colors of sand and sea for my coastal table.

Since the hydrangeas in my backyard aren’t fully bloomed, I bought these gorgeous blue and white hydrangeas at the grocery store…Wegman’s to be exact.  Do you have a Wegman’s near you?  It’s such a great store!

After arranging my coastal centerpiece with the live hydrangeas, I decided I wanted even more.  Luckily, I had a bunch of white artificial hydrangeas in my stash so I added them to the table.

Anyway, the blue hydrangeas happened to go perfectly with the blue plaid napkins I bought at Homegoods last year.  For even more hydrangea ideas, read my 7 easy ways to decorate with hydrangeas.

To bring in the color of sand, I used my burlap runner with my tan and white striped placemats.  Stripes always remind me of a beach cabana so they worked with my coastal theme.

Coastal Table Setting Ideas – Shells and Candles:

On a coastal style table, it’s easy to go overboard with the beachy accessories so I kept them light.  Just a few shells and starfish here and there mixed in with white flickering candles.

Coastal Table Setting Ideas – Simple DIY:

To make my super-easy napkin rings, I simply cut up toilet paper rolls and wrapped them with wired burlap.  Then I found some samples of blue grasscloth peel and stick wallpaper.  So, I cut it into pieces, wrapped it around the burlap and then hot glued a shell on top.  For even more napkin ring ideas, here are 3 easy ideas!

Coastal Table Setting Ideas – Galvanized Accessories:

When debating on charger plates, I went back and forth between my seagrass ones and these galvanized metal chargers.  After trying both, I decided to go with the galvanized.  Sometimes it takes a little trial and error.  To me, it felt like the seagrass chargers blended in too much with the burlap and the other tans on the table.

Since I already had a few galvanized accessories on the table, I liked the way they worked together.  Plus the galvanized chargers had the casual vibe of a beach side picnic or clambake…

Coastal Table Setting Ideas – White Dishes:

In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with simple white dishes for summer…or any time of the year for that matter.  Crisp white plates are classic and allow the rest of the coastal accessories to take center stage.

  7. Shelley – this table is so beautifully done! Sometimes (I think…!) ‘coastal’ gets a bit overdone, but your table is perfect! Just the right touch of light and summery with a little ‘beach-y’! I am swooning over those napkins, and appreciate the link to the Amazon napkins. I did put them on my list. Stay cool – it’s hot out here in NE Indiana with thunderstorms added in just for fun.

    1. Thanks so much Kristine! Yes, Homegoods has some great napkins but the buffalo check ones on Amazon are a great substitute. The colors look about the same…and you can’t go wrong with buffalo checks! Stay cool out there…it’s still brutal here in NJ!

  8. I knew with your love of blue and white that you would have something amazing to share for this hop! I love your tablescape! I have so many similar items that I think I will try to create a similar tablescape on my farm table next year. I am always mad for plaid and I think it’s great year round so I love your blue plaid napkins and adorable DIY napkin rings. I made similar napkin rings (no shells) a few years ago for fall.

I would never have known those white hydrangeas were fake. They match the fresh ones so well. And the blues match so perfectly too.

Such a lovely table with simple coastal vibes!

Thanks so much for joining the hop. Happy Summer!

    1. Thanks Amber…yes, I do love blue and white! The hydrangeas in the big center vase are all real. Only the ones in the smaller containers are fake but I’m glad they look real! Thanks again for hosting us all. There are so many beautiful ideas on this hop!

  9. Love this blue and white tablescape so much, Shelley! It feels like the perfect balance of coastal elegance and I wouldn’t have expected anything lless from you as your tablescapes are always gorgeous. Hope you and your family are having an amazing summer. Hugs, CoCo PS: I cannot believe some of the hydrangeas are faux. They look so real! I’ve been trying to squirrel enough of ours away to dry them for the fall season and it is not going well so I can’t wait to check out the ones you suggested.

    1. Thanks so much Coco – what a sweet comment! My hydrangeas in the yard are mostly greenish so I had to buy faux and grocery store ones for this table. Yeah, some of those artificial ones can really fool the eye. Glad you liked it all! Enjoy the rest of your summer!
