Now, let’s get started with my summer home tour:
Welcome to my traditional style foyer…
Today, we begin our tour in the foyer which gets the best afternoon sunlight this time of year. From here, you can see straight into the living room where we’ll take a look around.
Living room with a British Colonial aesthetic…
Since this room always has a bit of an island vibe, it’s easy to decorate for summer in here! For the summer season, I brought out shells, coral and even more cane and wicker pieces. In fact, I recently bought the scalloped edge rattan bowl and I’m loving how it adds to the coastal feel in the room.
With the coffee table being such a focal point, I wanted a light and airy look for summer.
Plus, you can’t go wrong with stacks of decorating books and some coral pieces.
Recently, I added a few starfish to the boxwood and woven spheres. Maybe I’ll fill the bowl with a bunch of larger shells at some point. Though, I do like the touches of greenery for summer. You’ll also notice I’ve opened up my windows to enjoy those sweet summer breezes. Here in New Jersey, the mornings have been cool enough to open the windows..at least for a little while.
Blue and white coastal decor in the kitchen…
What’s more classic than blue and white for summer? When decorating my kitchen, I wanted a light and airy feel for the warmer months. Since my curtains were already blue, it was easy to continue that color scheme.
Stripes are always a popular design for summer decorating and they make a great background for a table setting. In fact, I’ve used this tablecloth many times. Doesn’t it kind of remind you of the iconic rug from the movie, Something’s Gotta Give? Yeah, I love classic Nancy Meyers style!
For the place settings, I kept it simple with crisp white plates and napkins.
This past weekend, we hosted a pre-prom party for my son. Since I had the peonies left over from the party, I decided to add them to my summer table…why not repurpose them?
For this table, I loaded up on the seagrass and shells to continue the coastal feel.
In my opinion, this coastal aesthetic could work for casual dining or even a fancier dinner party.
Sure, this blue and white table setting works well in a kitchen but it would be fun to recreate on the patio…or even the beach!
Besides the beachy table, I added a few more coastal touches throughout the kitchen.
On my kitchen island and stove mantel, I filled white pitchers with grasses from my backyard bushes. The grasses remind me of what you might see growing on the sand dunes at the beach.
Instead of using a lot of color, I displayed neutrals like the wooden candlesticks and cane candle holders. For more neutrals and ways to decorate with white, read – Decorating with White for Summer.
On the island, I used my go-to round wooden tray to hold my coastal pieces.
If you want to create an easy vignette, start with a round tray. In fact, here are more ways I’ve decorated with them.
This time of year, I like to keep my kitchen clear and fresh from a lot of clutter. Sometimes, a pretty view is all you need.
Peek into our summer family room…
Since our kitchen and family room are open concept, I tend to decorate the two rooms alike. From the kitchen table, you can see I’ve continued the blue and white in the family room.
Even though I didn’t change much for the summer season in there, I did lean the window pane mirror up on the mantel. Once again…just keeping it simple.
On the family room coffee table, I displayed some blue and white chinoiserie spheres, some faux hydrangeas and another shell. Just a few simple touches to add to the casual summer vibe!
Thanks for visiting and I hope you enjoyed my easy, breezy summer home tour!

Gorgeous home!
Saved this to look at the way you have incorporated blue in your home (WOW).
BUT, what caught my eye is the rug in your ‘British Colonial’ living room.
Will you share where it was purchased?
Thanks,
Candy
Awe, thanks so much, Candace! You made my day! I’ve had that rug for about 20 years. It’s Nourison and the tag on it says Expo 2100 Collection EX32IV 9’6″ x 13’6″ and the SKU is 379244. I just tried to find it online but don’t see it anywhere but maybe you can track a used one down somewhere! Good luck and thanks for stopping by!
