A New Floor Lamp
Most of the time, my boys do their homework in their bedrooms.
And even though my 10 year old has his own desk, lately he likes to work on his bed. When he sits there, he says he can spread his papers out. So, I figure as long as he is getting the work done, he can sit wherever he wants!

Since the bed area can be a little dark at night, I recently purchased a new floor lamp to bring some much needed light to the space.
This is the Ballard Designs Julian Apothecary Floor Lamp (which has been discontinued). Even though Ballard no longer carries this lamp, I found this similar floor lamp for a great price!
Luckily, the lamp was easy to put together and works well in this corner. As I’d hoped, my son was thrilled with how much brighter his “work space” has become!
But as you can see, he still has his poster hanging over to the left. I guess that thing is here to stay. Sometimes, you have to let them have some input I guess! Now that I look at these photos, I am thinking about replacing the other lamp with something a little taller. Maybe by the time he leaves for college I will get this room finished!

I love that lamp – just saw a smaller version of it last week at the Ballard Outlet and thought it had the most beautiful finish!
The new lamp looks perfect for your son's room, Shelley! As for the other lamp, it looks really nice, so maybe the added height could be attained by sitting it on a book or two.

Awesome! I love the lamp's steampunk look, as it matches well with the overall them of the bedroom. Kids have been known to be more comfortable doing their homework on their beds, though the psychology behind that is not quite that well-researched yet, but I do love the fact that you support that gesture.
