Fall Table for Four
On Sunday, I asked the boys what they would like for dinner.
“Turkey!”, responded my 10 year old.
Someone around here must be looking forward to Thanksgiving. And why not? The weather has finally started to feel more like fall here in New Jersey.
We don’t use the dining room as much as we should so in addition to cooking our Thanksgiving inspired dinner, we decided to decorate for the occasion.
We set the table with the good china and crystal.
I pulled out my fall runner.
And we threw in a few white pumpkins.
Pumpkins and pine cones.
I kept the place settings simple although
I should have added some kind of fun fall accessory.
So after the table was set,
I headed to the store to buy all the Thanksgiving ingredients.
The store only had frozen turkeys
so I had to improvise with a roast chicken instead.
No one seemed to mind.
Especially since I also made mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing (boxed),
peas and cornbread.
Yeah, I was cooking all afternoon.
Oh, yes and I even bought a pumpkin pie!
What’s a Thanksgiving dinner without one of those?
It ended up being a wonderful evening. Just the four of us chatting and enjoying our time together. We even went around the table expressing what each of us was thankful for. A great reminder to celebrate every moment in life. Who cares what month the calendar says…
Does the weather ever inspire your dinner?

Your setting and menu is a pre-thanksgiving party for sure! Love the simplicity of your setting Shelley!
Your table looks absolutely beautiful. Please let me know if I am still coming up as a no-reply. It had to do with Google +. I switched it back to blogger. Can't figure out how to keep Google + and have it not be a no reply.
It's too hot here. Your table and setting is gorgeous. Have a great day.
What a great idea…………and what a pretty table, love your runner, so pretty and your verysimple yet elegant decorations. I heard a lady named Joyce Landorf talk about ways to make our family feel special, and she said once in awhile she get the china out and she would say to her children we have some very special people coming for dinner, and of course, it was her children, and they were so thrilled. So I adoptedthat a long time ago when my children were little, Sounds like yall had a wonderful time. Those are precious memories, and yes, the weather inspired me to make Chili for din dintonight…..can hardly wait………..cause our evenings have cooled off some and it feels more like Fall course they are getting warmer every day, so figured I better strike whilethe iron it hot. lolYour centerpiece and table really very lovely……….my kind of table.Blessings, Nellie
I love the white and gold. So elegant! We are getting a few chilly evenings down here too!
What a great Mom you are! And wonderful that you set your table and make a fuss just for the four of you! What is more important than sharing with those closest?
Your dining room looks lovely. Great idea to have a formal-ish dinner with just your family!
What a fun memory for your family! I also like the way you used the white pumpkins. I haven't seen any of those here yet. #Be.You.Tiful

What a sweet mom to give the boys just what they wanted! Yes, the weather often inspires my meals. I think your dining room is every bit as lovely as the one you showed in the home show. Sounds like an amazing dinner! Although I would have to have Pecan pie instead of Pumpkin. lol! Thanks for sharing with SYC.hugs,Jann
I love how you created this dinner and gathered for the meal and had such a good family moment. That's the best part of dining together which a lot of people don't do anymore! We had a hot turkey dinner at a restaurant recently- loved it! The pumpkin pie looks like it was delicious!
Gorgeous tablescape – love the runner! Love it! I do appreciate you sharing with Home and Garden Thursday,Kathy
