Fall Table for Four

On Sunday, I asked the boys what they would like for dinner. “Turkey!”, responded my 10 year old.  Someone around here must be looking forward to Thanksgiving. And why not?  The weather has finally started to feel more like fall here in New Jersey!  Today, I’m sharing our simple fall table for four.

We don’t use the dining room as much as we should so in addition to cooking our Thanksgiving inspired dinner, we decided to decorate for the occasion.

We set the table with the good china and crystal.

I pulled out my fall runner.

And we threw in a few white pumpkins.

Pumpkins and pine cones.

I kept the place settings simple although
I should have added some kind of fun fall accessory.

So after the table was set,

I headed to the store to buy all the Thanksgiving ingredients.

The store only had frozen turkeys
so I had to improvise with a roast chicken instead.
No one seemed to mind.

Especially since I also made mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing (boxed),
peas and cornbread.
Yeah, I was cooking all afternoon.

Oh, yes and I even bought a pumpkin pie!
What’s a Thanksgiving dinner without one of those?

Overall, it ended up being a wonderful evening.  Just the four of us chatting and enjoying our time together.  To stick with the Thanksgiving theme, we even went around the table expressing what each of us was thankful for.  A great reminder to celebrate every moment in life.  Who cares what month the calendar says…

Does the weather ever inspire your dinner?
