One Room Challenge – Week 3 (Panic and Indecision)

Here is a piece of advice for you…If you want time to pass with lightning speed, join the One Room Challenge!  Seriously, how are we on week 3 already?

I am panicking slightly because with just 3 weeks left, I better make sure I get everything ordered in time.  And to order things…I need to make some decisions!

My biggest decision will be the rug.  Once I commit to one, I will be able to choose the fabric to cover the chair seats and then move on from there…

I think I have been to every store in New Jersey that sells rugs and I have spent more hours than I care to admit, scouring the internet.  I want something with a light background with some blues in it.  When I found the rug below, I ordered it in a small size to try it out.  It should be here tomorrow and I have my fingers crossed that I will be happy with it in person.

So the decision will be narrowed down to that rug or a seagrass one.  I think I am leaning towards seagrass for the look and versatility and I am leaning towards the rug above for softness and color.

I know the rug above will give the room a more formal look.  In that case, I might add a buffet/sideboard like the one below …(It looks gray in the photo but is supposed to be distressed antique white with solver and gold highlights.)

I would put the piece along the blank wall (in the first photo above).  My china cabinet across the room is dark cherry so I thought it might be nice to go lighter on the other side with this one…unless it makes the room look lopsided…

I have searched antique and used furniture stores for something cherry instead but most that I found were way too expensive.  A console table type of piece could work but I really need something with storage below.  The one below could work and is the right size for the space, although it’s a little casual…

Then there is one that is totally out of my budget but I just love it.  I have this thing for plantation shutters and shuttered door furniture…

I already checked the RH outlet and couldn’t find it on sale there so I guess I will just have to find something else…Even the smaller size (which I would get anyway), is too much to spend right now.

Other than that, I bought a couple lamps from Homegoods to put on this mystery sideboard but I am holding on to my receipt until I make more decisions.  What am I waiting for?…Well, I guess the rug for starters!  Wish me luck on that decision!

In case you need to get caught up, I listed the links to the first two weeks of my project:

  1. Ohhh, I love that RH console as well! I'm a big fan of Birch Lane, maybe you can find a less expensive piece that is just as beautiful! Best of luck during ORC!

    1. Thanks Kristin! I saw a few on Birch Lane that could possibly work. I am heading out to another furniture store this morning to see what I can come up with…Good luck on the ORC as well!

  2. I am sure whatever rug you choose will be beautiful. I am a fan of jute or seagrass because they are so versatile. You can dress them up or down, and it makes it easier to change your decor.

  3. I love your sideboard options Shelley! That blue is looking so gorgeous with the white trim, love it for a dining room!

  4. I love the blue Shelley and am so glad you chose the Hale Navy! The RH console is beautiful, but I like the other distressed white one better with your other furniture anyway. Hope one of your rugs works out!Sheilaxo
