National Popcorn Day – How Do You Like Your Popcorn?

Happy National Popcorn Day!  Normally, I wouldn’t dedicate a whole blog post to one of these trivial “holidays” but a coincidence caused me to write this blog post.  You see, earlier today I was up to my elbows in kitchen organization and I came across my red and white ceramic popcorn bowl.  With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I thought maybe I could do something with the bowl…since it’s red and all.

Anyway, then I remembered that National Popcorn Day was sometime in January. 

Today, I thought to myself, “When is National Popcorn Day?”…

Yes, I check that silly National Day calendar from time to time… Well, would you believe when I checked the calendar, I realized that today is National Popcorn Day?!!  Wow, I must be psychic!  Ha!  So, add this important date to your calendar for next year – National Popcorn Day is January 19th!

Favorite Ways to Make Popcorn on National Popcorn Day:

Pop your popcorn with hot air…

In our home, we prefer to use a hot air popcorn popper.  When my kids were younger, they would love watching the popcorn shoot out of the popper into the bowl.  For them, making popcorn was just as enjoyable as eating it! 

Of course, I always liked the air popper because I felt like it was a healthier alternative to microwave popcorn or even those poppers that use oil.  Then again, my family likes to drench the bowl of popcorn with butter so I’m not exactly sure this is any healthier!

So, I guess we all have our favorite ways to make popcorn.  How do you like to pop yours?

Everything looks more festive in a pretty bowl, don’t you think? 

Actually, I need to use my cute popcorn bowl more often.  Years ago at a school fundraiser, I actually won this red and white bowl.  It was included as part of a movie themed gift basket.  Cute idea, huh?  If you’re wondering, my bowl is from Williams Sonoma but they don’t sell them anymore. Though, Crate and Barrel makes a few cute ones!  And for a lightweight version, this popcorn bucket is perfect!

From butter to salt and more…

Like I mentioned, my family loves to douse their popcorn in butter and sprinkle it with salt.  Basically, they try to have a movie theater experience at home.  Though, we have tried some different flavorings and seasonings.  From time to time, it’s nice to try something new.

When you’re short on time, it’s sometimes easier just to buy a bag of premade popcorn or go the microwave route.  My personal favorite bagged popcorn is anything by Boom Chicka Pop!  Here are a few more of our family favorites:

So, now that I got you in the mood for popcorn, go make yourself a bowl and enjoy what’s left of National Popcorn Day!  Although, you don’t need a “holiday” to enjoy a bowl.  In our home, practically everyday is National Popcorn Day!
