Laundry Room Lighting – Before and After
Finally, we installed our new light in our laundry room!
Of course, I haven’t finished all the projects I wanted to do in there yet…baby steps…
Anyway, just to update you on the lighting project…
Here is the lighting BEFORE:
As you can see, we had a very tiny builder-grade light.

And here is the AFTER:
We replaced the builder grade light with a classic schoolhouse light fixture.
As you might recall, I was deciding between this one:
and this one:
Eventually, I decided on the second one because I liked the shape a little better.
Plus it was a little more expensive and I love to waste money – LOL!
**Please note that the exact one I purchased doesn’t appear to be available any longer but this Schoolhouse Light is very similar.
At one point, a Small Bell Jar Light was in the running. I really loved it, especially the way that style looks against a beadboard ceiling…
This was an inspiration photo I took at the Regent Palms Resort in the Turks and Caicos. See more at Caribbean Inspired Lighting.
In the end, I thought the Schoolhouse light would be more practical for my laundry room.
So, as I slowly progress with my laundry room projects, this is one more thing I can check off my list!
Have you purchased any new lighting lately?
I’d love for you to follow along so you don’t miss a post!

I love the schoolhouse light. You would have had a time with dust showing in the glass fixture. I need to replace several more lights in this house. The old brass has to go.
Thanks Kim! I didn't even think about the dust collecting in the glass fixture! Another reason I am happy I got the schoolhouse one! -Shelley
Looks nice! We replaced our dining room and entry hall fixtures last fall as well as replacing a couple of porch lights. We've been so happy with the new fixtures. I am about to change some bathroom lights as well, but will be using vintage fixtures (if my electrician will hang them).
Thank you! It seems like there is always something to replace doesn't it!-Shelley
It's perfect!!
Thank you so much!
Sweet! Love the inspiration pix too!!
I think it looks perfect as well! 🙂 I need to get some new lights around my house, it is so hard to decide sometimes. :)I hope you had a wonderful Easter!xoxox
It's so pretty Shelley!! I have the same bubble light (your "before") in a couple spots in my house and they need to go! Thanks for the inspiration – I love your schoolhouse light!! (And that ceiling….swoooooon.)
Ooo, I like! I think that is an excellent choice. I love the shape of schoolhouse lights and love that they are closed in so the bugs won't congregate in there.
Between the bugs and the dust, I am SO glad I chose the light I did! Those are things I didn't even think about before!
Wowzers! I love your light choice – perfect with your ceiling. I agree with everyone else regarding the open lights. Most of mine are open and they are a nightmare to keep free of dust and bugs. Well done! 😉
Thanks – I am even happier with my choice now!
Even though the shape of the two options was only slightly different, I definitely like the second one (the one your picked) better. Plus, I love to waste money too! So glad we have that in common. 🙂
I'm always and big fan of the schoolhouse light fixture, and yours is perfect! Right now, I am looking for a little chandelier to hang in my bathroom!
Thanks Heather. I can't wait to see what chandelier you choose!
I love school house lights! And of course the most expensive one. If there's ever a choice, pick more expensive! lol It looks fab hanging on that bead board ceiling! I recently hung a new little chandy in my foyer. It's amazing the difference a light fixture can make.
You and me both! I'm into trying to redo my laundry small room, but don't start. I love your idea of lighting, it's great. Can't wait to see what you do next, so I can inspire myself. Thanks for visiting me sweet lady.FABBY
You chose well! So pretty, love it. Visiting from Cozy Home Scenes party.
Shelley, thanks for revealing your new light fixture at the party. I like the way it looks and it probably gives off good light in your laundry room. Can't wait to see how you decorate the room.———- Shannon
cute cute cute!! and thanks for all of the kid comments over at my place! to answer your bannister quiestion…i took a good long weekend to do it all. the dust wasn't too bad. The painting of the spindles is what took so long. 🙁 BUT, i would do it again 300 times. it made such a HUGE difference!
I love the look of these light fixtures.
Very nice and so appropriate for the space. I love a schoolhouse fixture!
Love your choice! It looks great.
Great choice. I love the look.
While I love both lighting choices I do think you made the right decision. It's perfect!
Nice choice, and I love your ceiling! I plan to put this kind of ceiling in our laundry room someday. I'm visiting from Remodelholic.Have a great weekend!Deborah
