Still Searching for Counter Stools

I still haven’t decided on counter stools.  I know it looks like I am the most indecisive person in the world (and the clumsiest, but I will get to that) but I just want to find the right stools for my kitchen!

For years, I dreamed of the look I wanted in my kitchen.  I have worked very hard choosing every item and so far I am very happy with all of my decisions.

As you can see above, I am still using two temporary wood stools.  They are functional for the kids to sit there but they don’t go with my overall plan.

I feel like I am constantly online searching and gathering different options for my kitchen.  Take a look at some of my ideas below and feel free to let me know what you think!

By the way, some of the links to the stools below are ‘affiliate links’.  Which means if you click over and purchase the stool, I will make a small percentage off the sale with no additional cost to you.

Let’s start looking at the latest group of stools I gathered up!

I still like the idea of a backless stool so I can push it under the counter when not in use.  We currently have basic round wood ones but I like the idea of cushion…

Backless Counter Height Stools

I am also thinking it might be nice to swivel so a cushion and swivel might be a nice option…

I do like the white because the stools would stand out against the cherry island.

Then again, I could go with a white seat to get that look.  Many of you have commented in the past how you like a back on your counter stool…

Tufted Counter Stool

Not only does the one above have a back but it also has a nice metal footrest to put your feet on.  You just know my boys would manage to scuff up a wood footrest.

Doesn’t this stool look luxurious though?

Tufted Wing Back Counter Stool (used to be called Leandra)

The one above might be too sophisticated for my family.  It does look comfy though!

These actually fit our family’s lifestyle a little better..

 Industrial Spin Stools

Yeah, you know those boys would be spinning away on those.

Or even this one would work…

If I am going to go with an industrial look, these might work as well…

Wood and metal counter stools

I like the way the tops are wood so you don’t have to sit directly on cold metal.

But if I am going for wood and industrial, why not throw a back on and do something like this…

Industrial Counter Stools

I have saved tons of inspiration photos of stools like this and they look really nice in my type of kitchen.  They also remind me of the “Fixer Upper Style” which I just love!  (Don’t we all?!)

One of my original ideas for the counter stools involved something like this though…

X Back Chair (previously listed as Chicago chair)

I have seen many variations of these chairs but I would probably go darker in color.

Whatever I choose, I really need to get moving on my decision.  These tiny-seated wooden things are just not cutting it for me with my morning tea routine.

And on top of that – today I am having to stretch out to rest my knee.

black and white checked pajamas

I would like to tell you a glamorous story of a knee injury while skiing but no, that is not the case.  Sure, we took the family to Vermont and skied all weekend.  The conditions were not ideal this time with slush on Friday, icy patches on Saturday and limited trails open.  But we all managed to ski our best on probably our last weekend up there for the season.  My husband and I congratulated ourselves for not getting any injuries….After surviving the slopes, I then went to feed Rosie this morning and tripped into the closet, smashing my knee into the corner of the wall.  Apparently, I am not as coordinated as I gave myself credit for – I can barely walk now…just fabulous.

But anyway, back to the counter stools.  With all these beautiful options out there I am having such a hard time deciding!  I guess with the way my knee feels now, I will have plenty of time to sit and decide!

What are your thoughts on these counter stools?

I’d love for you to follow along so you don’t miss a post!

  1. I love the wood/industrial look. Actually looking to change ours out. Hubby prefers backless so they can be tucked under the counter when not in use. I say no to swivel…disaster with kids!

  2. Although I love the leandra chairs, they are probably not a good choice with kids. I think I would go with the Chicago counter stools. Hope your knee is ok. Have a good week!

  3. Sorry about your knee. I hope it heals quickly. I think we need a padded room together. Now, choose the stools already!!

  4. I'm in the same boat. We're using the old black counter stools in the man cave, because we actually eat at the bar, and the kitchen island has no seating at present. Months ago, I'd almost bought stools, but I'm glad I waited, because I would've made (yet another) mistake. My two cents: backless stools will tuck away and (I'm thinking) be a bit easier, design-wise. I like comfort and being able to relax in a chair, but the design becomes more of an issue. As of now, I plan to paint one of the Madeline (currently black–will be white or a soft color) counter stools, then I'll see how it works. As for the man cave, I'd been dead-set against leather stools, but, seeing how messy my DH can be, I've changed my mind. LOL Hope your knee heals soon!

  5. Hope your knee feels better today! My vote is for the Chicago stool, although I think the Leandra would be a lovely choice (but just not as durable like you said). I currently have backless industrial swivel stools in our kitchen and love them. My island is cherry too and they don't make a statement in the room. They just blend in, but backless definitely isn't as comfortable. So many factors to consider! Good luck. And remember, they are just bar stools. You can always change them because they aren't a big financial commitment 🙂

  6. Oh gosh, feel better! I hope your knee heals quickly!!And of these that you have listed, I like the Angeles by far the best! Can't wait to see what you go with!Sheilaxowww.maisondecinq.blogspot.com

  7. Chicago stool resemble the French bistro chairs which are so popular and they have those but not swivel and the Farmhouse store. ALso British Pine EMporium in Madison. Good Luck!

  8. i like backless and don't like swivel …you'll know them when you see them…your kitchen is gorgeous….here from Rattlebridge

  9. I think at the end of the day what you choose needs to be stylish, durable, and comfortable above all else. I'm sure you don't want to have to replace them in a few years….so taking your time to make the right decision is exactly right! I had the same problem last year when I was moving into my home and I'm glad I went with a stool with a back on it because everybody gathers in the kitchen when I entertain….always. Good luck with your search and rest that knee!
