Holding on to Summer (Ways to Embrace the Season)
Happy weekend and welcome to the Saturday Spotlight where I share weekly inspiration! Already, it feels like summer is rapidly slipping away. Each day, the sun sets a little bit earlier and the evenings are finally getting cooler…at least where I live. If you aren’t ready to say goodbye to the season, join me in holding on to summer a bit longer! Today, I’m sharing various ways that I’m embracing August and the last weeks of the sweet summer season!

Holding on to Summer – Ways to Embrace the Season:
Appreciate that hydrangea season is in full swing…
As I mentioned last week, my hydrangea bushes are blooming like crazy! In fact, after I cut a bunch of stems to bring inside, I couldn’t even tell any were missing.
Do some late summer decorating with hydrangeas…
Of course, we have to enjoy some of those hydrangeas inside the house too! This week, I arranged a bunch of hydrangeas on my kitchen table for an everyday centerpiece. In case you’re wondering, I just bought the pretty scalloped edge bowl and thought it was perfect to display fresh hydrangeas!
Recently, my pink and white hydrangeas also started blooming. Although I’m not 100 percent sure, I think these are called Pinky Winky Panicle hydrangeas…but I’ll have to double check with my landscaper.
Anyway, since I’m still hanging on to summer for as long as possible, I decorated a simple late summer mantel…
To keep it uncomplicated, I added a couple white candlesticks and a summery piece of art to pick up the colors of the flowers. For even more ways to decorate with hydrangeas, here are 7 simple ideas!
While the weather is still nice, dine outside as much as possible…
Earlier this summer, it was way to hot to eat dinner outside. Now that that temps have gotten a little more bearable, we’ve been dining alfresco every chance we get!
If you’re back to school shopping, do a little browsing for yourself…
Last week, I stopped in Target to check out some of their latest merchandise. Besides purchasing the scalloped edge bowl, I browsed through some of their Magnolia displays. I love how their white stoneware is so practical, classic…and inexpensive. In fact, their pieces remind me of Farmhouse Pottery and other more expensive brands.

Enjoy the mess while your kids are still home…
Yes, it’s time to get sentimental…As you’re getting your kids back to school, remember you’ll probably miss their mess when they’re away. This year, both of my boys will be away at college. Of course, I’m happy for them but I’m sure I’ll be crying my eyes out in a couple weeks…

My hydrangeas are doing incredibly well this year too!
I think we’ve had the right amount of rain for them!
All great ideas, especially enjoying the kids and the mess. I have to be honest, I am ready for cooler weather, it’s been way too hot.
Have a great week.
Thanks Elizabeth! Yes, it’s been a hot summer here…but I always wish summer would last a little longer!
Thank you for reminding me to not be so impatient with end of summer. I am a fall + winter girl, through and through. I sometimes find myself just ‘enduring’ summer. (But if I had your backyard, I would enjoy summer more!! Your pool is gorgeous, as are your hydrangeas!) There is a kind of a sweetness to August. The sun is definitely changing; more golden and mellow. Minute by minute, the sun is setting earlier. And this morning, it was a tiny bit crispy outside! Since I know fall is REALLY on its way, I will grant summer a little bit more grace and patience!
Thanks Kristine! What a beautiful comment! Even though summer is my favorite, I DO love the change of seasons…I just wish time wouldn’t fly by so fast! Enjoy your week!
Wow, those hydrangeas are gorgeous, Shelley! I have hydrangea envy! Ha! I’m glad you’re getting to enjoy them. Thanks so much for linking to my summer bucket list. I hope you and your family had a wonderful summer off!
Thanks Crissy! I can’t really take credit for the hydrangeas…the rain this season has been the perfect amount! Happy end of summer to you!
