Feels Like Falling – A Perfect Novel to Read this Summer

If you’re like me, you’ve used this extra time at home to read some great books.  Since I always find it helpful to hear what everyone else is reading, I thought I’d share a sweet, summer novel with you – Feels Like Falling by Kristy Woodson Harvey.

If you regularly read my blog, you know I’m a huge fan of Kristy Woodson Harvey’s novels and her blog, Design Chic.  I’ve read all of her books and was honored when she had Gallery Books send me a copy her latest novel!  *As always, all opinions expressed are my own.

Feels Like Falling Novel - Great Beach Read!

Feels Like Falling

Summary from the back cover:

From “the next major voice in Southern fiction” (Elin Hilderbrand) and the bestselling author of the Peachtree Bluff series comes an odd-couple tale of friendship that asks just how much our past choices define our happiness.

It’s summertime on the North Carolina coast and the livin’ is easy.

Unless, that is, you’ve just lost your mother to cancer, your sister to her extremist husband, and your husband to his executive assistant. Meet Gray Howard. Right when Gray could use a serious infusion of good karma, she inadvertently gets a stranger, Diana Harrington.

Diana Harrington’s summer isn’t off to the greatest start either: Hours before losing her job, she broke up with her boyfriend and moved out of their house with only a worn-out Impala for a bed. Lucky for her, Gray has an empty guesthouse and a very guilty conscience.

With Gray’s kindness, Diana’s tide begins to turn. But when her first love returns, every secret from her past seems to resurface. And, as Gray begins to blaze a new trail, she discovers, that what she envisioned as her perfect life may not be what she wants at all.

In her warmest, wisest novel yet, Kristy Woodson Harvey delivers a discerning portrait of modern womanhood through two vastly different lenses. Feels Like Falling is a beach bag essential for Harvey fans—and for a new generation of readers

What I loved about Feels Like Falling:

During this time when most of us are separated from our friends, I was drawn to the special bond of friendship in this story.  Although the two main characters, Gray and Diana are very different women, they’re both experiencing challenges that bring them together.  As we all know, life doesn’t always turn out the way we expect.  Through these tough times, both women give each other support as their unexpected friendship develops.  They are both strong in their own ways and I found myself rooting for them to find happiness.

Not only did I enjoy the special friendship between the two main characters but I was very entertained by the secondary characters as well.  I loved the quirkiness of Gray’s assistant, Trey and the bold comments from her best friend, Marcy.  They definitely had some great “one liners” and actually reminded me of people I know in real life.

As always, I adored Kristy Woodson Harvey’s beautiful writing style.  Like her previous novels, she has a way of bringing characters to life and drawing you into their world.  In this case, their world centered around a gorgeous coastal home in the summer.  For me, it was a perfect escape!  I think you’ll agree, we all need an escape these days!
