Fun Places to Spend a Fall Day and A Few Recent Happenings

Now that the temperatures have cooled down, I would like to share some fun places to spend a fall day in the central New Jersey area.

Actually, the weather has been lovely for the past month, just warmer than usual.  Now that it’s cooler, I have been trying to spend as much time as possible outside.

Just the other day, I enjoyed a girl’s day out in Princeton, NJ with one of my best pals.  Our first stop was the farmer’s market on Witherspoon Street.  Don’t those apples look scrumptious?  Which reminds me, I think I need to find a good apple pie recipe!

As you can see, it was the perfect day to stroll though the stores in Palmer Square, the shopping area across from Princeton University.

Homestead Store in Princeton - my new favorite store!

While we were there, I discovered my new favorite store, Homestead!  Let’s take a look inside…

Furniture, home decor accessories…

Homestead Store Princeton - rugs

And tons of rugs!  Seriously, I could have spent all day in there!  One of these days, I plan to go back because they sell beautiful barnwood tables which you can customize.  Hopefully, this will finally solve my kitchen table dilemma!

After a morning of shopping, we stopped for lunch at Agricola, a delicious farm to table restaurant.

I loved the decor in there with its rustic farmhouse feel and our lunch was so fresh and flavorful.  Already, we are talking about going back with the husbands for dinner.  Then we will be able to sample some of the unique cocktails listed on the menu!

Check out the fun lighting…

Speaking of fun lighting, I loved this one at the J.McLaughlin store we stopped in on the way back to the car.  Love that store.

Places to Spend a Fall Day – Delaware River Towns

Another cute town to visit this time of year is Frenchtown, New Jersey.  It’s located right on the Delaware River and has the sweet charm of an old river town.

That day, my dad was in town so I met him for a casual lunch down the street.  Supposedly, the Frenchtown Inn is good for dinner so I will have to check it out one of these days.

On another day, my son and I happened to be across the river in Pennsylvania so we decided to stop at Ringing Rocks Park in Upper Black Eddy…

Unfortunately, we were unprepared when we swung by that day.  Apparently, you are supposed to bring a hammer so you can tap the rocks and hear a ringing sound.  Luckily, we borrowed a hammer from a nearby couple.

If you want to hear some of the rock sounds, pop over to Uncovering PA website and watch the quick video.  It really is a neat place and no one really knows exactly why some of the rocks give off a ringing sound.  Fun for kids!

Recent Happenings

Yes, this blurry cell phone photo above is a picture of a black bear.  We spotted him on the ride home less than a mile from my house.  Obviously, I don’t want to meet up with him when I am out walking Rosie!

Speaking of Rosie, she has been enjoying the cooler temperatures.  Lounging in front of the window is one of her favorite places to spend a fall day!

New Family Room clock

As expected, the cooler temps have gotten me in the mood to decorate for fall!  Recently, I shared my fall console table and I just added the clock above.  If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen my stories.  At first, I was undecided as to where to put the clock but most of you, along with my son, voted for this space.  After obsessing over each spot, I decided you were right, so up it went.  One decision to cross off my list!

Sunflowers for fall

Recently, I picked these sunflowers up at a farm stand but they didn’t last as long as I had hoped.  They were dropping yellow dust all over my counter after only a few days.  The ones I had last year lasted for weeks and weeks…but I think they came from a florist so they were probably treated with something.  Anyway, they looked lovely with my blue and white porcelain in the foyer!

Sleepy Golden Retriever

And that wraps up my recent fall happenings.  Bring on October – it’s pumpkin time!

  1. What a fun day! Though the 🐻 bear must have been startling. Rosie looks so sweet. Jasper sends her apple-scented kisses.🐶

  2. I really enjoyed this post, Shelley. I never heard of the ringing rocks. We definitely need to check that out – my boys would love it too. We should meet one day for shopping and lunch. You seem to know about all of the best places! And the bear – Yikes!! I have such a fear of my dogs getting into an encounter with a bear when we are upstate. Have a great start to the week.
