Getting Creative with the Husband Gifts

If your husband is like mine, he is THE most difficult person to buy for on your list!

After years of frustration, last year I tried a new and creative approach to his gifts.

I would have shared it with you then but since the whole thing was a surprise, I couldn’t take a chance that he would read the blog before Christmas.  Because you know, he is regular reader – lol.  Actually, he probably doesn’t even remember the name of my blog!…  Either way, I couldn’t take a chance!

On Christmas morning, I handed him an envelope with these cards inside…

(without the Calypso in the Country watermark on them of course!)

First, he opened this card…

Christmas Note - with gift idea

Then this card followed…Everything You've Never Wanted for Christmas

Following with this card as the explanation…
Christmas Gift Theme
Each gift that went along with my theme had this dreaded card inside…

Ski socks - part of my Christmas gift theme idea

Ski socks are never that exciting!  But hey, when you don’t give me a list…that’s what you get!

Boxers - part of my themed gift for Christmas

But underwear is even less exciting..

Boxers - Husband gift ideas

Especially when there is a dog theme!

On the back of each “Everything You’ve Never Wanted” card, I wrote a little note to explain the reasoning behind the gift…

Funny gift theme for husband

Back in the ‘old days’ we skied without helmets, but now that we have picked up skiing again with the kids, helmets are essential.  My husband resisted the first year, but since he now skis with my daredevil 11 year old, I insisted on this gift!

I don’t have photos of the rest of the gifts – which he ended up returning anyway!  I thought a Kindle would be a great gift for when he travels, but like me, he prefers ‘real books’.  He also didn’t like the flannel pajamas I bought him.  He is a sweatpants guy and at this age, was not ready to change.  Oh well, I tried.

I also bought him some regular gifts like sweaters, etc..I can’t remember them now because they were so boring but he ended up keeping them.

Overall, the theme made it fun and more interesting for someone who is SO difficult to buy for…and we had lots of laughs!

Oh and by the way, he got me back when it came to my birthday this year…

Since, I always complain how we never have any light bulbs in the house…

silly gift - part of the holiday gift theme

He bought me a whole case!  This should last me a while!

My husband and his sense of humor!…You might recall the Frankenbike Story from a few Mother’s Days ago.  What am I going to to do with him?!!

Anyway, if you are still agonizing on what to buy someone for Christmas, go with a silly theme like mine!

It’s worth a try…and a few laughs!  And ironically, the theme made it easier to buy things.

I just bought things I thought he should have and I actually enjoyed shopping for him!

Ok, this is priceless! I too have THAT hubby. Might have to rewrap a couple gifts to do this, but it would be so worth it. If for nothing else than my girls' hysterical laughter on Christmas day!! And, mine would so get me back like that too. Love it though.

Just had a thought, I could put the cards in small envelopes attached to the gift…that way I don't have to rewrap. LOL 😉

Such a cute idea Shelley! I buy those kinds of "gifts" for Mark every year already, and I love the little note and theme! Then you end up with a bunch of things to open which is always fun!

This post is hilarious! I'm laughing out loud, and my husband is looking at me strangely. He doesn't read my blog, either, so you're not the only one. He's also hard to buy for (you now how men are). I love those gifts you gave your husband, and I love how he gave you a gift you really needed ;)As for the Kindle, give it time. While I love "real" books, I absolutely love my Kindle, and it is really great when you're on the road! I now have downloaded hundreds of books (shhh, don't tell my husband)
