Shopping in the Country

Don’t you hate it when you are supposed to be Christmas shopping but you only find things you want for yourself?

That happened to me the other day when I visited a wonderful store called The Lamington General Store.

This establishment is on a peaceful road in the middle of horse country, just a mile or two from the Trump National Golf Course.

The Lamington General Store sells antiques, home decor items and local artwork.

I always love these old sleds!

I have been looking for a mirror just like this for my mantel.

I had no idea this place had so many beautiful things!

The owners informed me that these mirrors are from old windows and a local man restores them and inserts the mirrors.

I took measurements from a few.  If one doesn’t fit over my mantel, I want to find a place somewhere in my house for one!

Besides the lovely mirrors, the store had many pieces of pottery and items from local artists.

And while I shopped, the friendly owner kept my son busy chatting…while he explained to her how to play Angry Birds on my phone!

And although I didn’t come home with a mirror, I did buy a couple darling ornaments and this cute pine cone made out of some kind of natural material.  It will go perfectly in one of my island-inspired vignettes.

After the holidays when I can justify spending money on myself I plan to head back to this charming store. But for now, it’s back to the serious Christmas shopping. That is, after I rest from my morning-into-afternoon mimosa “sipping” Cookie Exchange party! (Luckily we were able to get the kindergartners off the bus and continue our gathering into the afternoon!) I think I need a nap…

Do you have any charming country stores near you?

  1. I love the old sleds and those mirrors are beautiful, too. When it comes to cleaning, I'm thankful our house isn't large. When it comes to decorating, however, I wish it had fifty rooms so I could have space for this sort of thing. Pretty post!

  6. This store sure beats the malls at this time of year! It never fails that when I do looking for something for myself I can find nothing I like, and then when I shop for other people I end up seeing a million things I like. Augh- it's exhausting! I need one of your mimosas!

  8. It's so hard not to look for yourself just a little. I'd have a hard time in that store – it looks like my kind of place to shop.

  9. I love those mirrors too; I shop for everyone else and sometimes (ok–most times–) end up with some little thing for myself too; usually for the house. Your ornaments are sweet! Merry Christmas!
